Before I could say a word to Karen, I dashed to the corner where Jelian and Julian are sitting. Then, I dragged them out of the room by force.
My wolf did not even care what my classmates would think and say to me aa soon as I got back. What matters to me is to stop Jealian and Julian from doing whatever they are trying to do. They come into our school, wearing our school uniforms, and choose our course among the rest. As far as I know, the two have a better future studying in an expensive school. "What are you two doing?" I furiously asked both of them before letting go of my grip on their hands. "Don't tell me you're blind now?" Jelian retorted. "Isn't it obvious? We're studying in the same school as you now. Why? Is the school prohibits transfer students from enrolling here?" Jelian suddenly slides closer to me and crosses her arms with mine. But I refuse to make skin contact with her. Or any of them. Not anymore. After stabbing me behind my back, I already promised myself I will never talk to them. "Remember this, Jelian, Julian. I will never allow any of you lay a hand on her. Over my dead body." those were my last words to them before I went back to the room. Karen greeted me again. "So, as the president of the class, I want you to assist our new students, Melvin. And of course, Jelian is your girlfriend, the twins deserve a tour of the school." Karen slapped my shoulder before she went back to her seat. She did not even wait for me to decline her proposal. Or at least to correct her about my relationship with Jelian. There is no way I would get back to her even if she will be the remaining female wolf in the world. Whatever their plans for Karen are, I'm gonna stop them no matter what takes. Transferring school is not enough for me to get convinced they have nothing against Karen or me. Or perhaps Alpha Draku has something to do with it. As far as I could remember from our last conversation, he gave me a week to do something against my will. Right. He ordered the twins to keep an eye on me. Jelian told me that once I failed, they will take over the mission. Right after the classes, I did not waste any of my time when I still have a few sidelines to do. I toured Jelian and Julian throughout the school. "Relax, Melvin. Your nervousness is well written all over your face." Jelian started the conversation while leading them the way. I did not say a single word about everything we can pass through compared to a regular tourist guide who talks a lot, especially the parts of the school that most contributed to its history. There is no point in telling them when I already know the reason they came to the school. Instead of saying a word, I dig deeper into the deepest part of my brain about how to protect Karen, especially when she will be out of my sight. "Fine," Julian added. "Karen is not here anyway, so I'd be upfront with you. Three days, Melvin. If Alpha Draku gave you a week, I'm giving you three days to kill her." "Are you fucking kidding me?" I could not help but clench my fist, waiting for my brain and heart's go signal to punch him in the face. "No. I'm not kidding, Melvin." Julian insisted on his decision. He and Jelian even fake a smile at those students who we could pass through. I already have a few things in mind aside from killing Karen. One to mention is about how to survive living alone in this world as a lone wolf. Now that I am no longer part of the Moonlight pack and was disbanded from my work as a werewolf guardian, my wolf has been exposed to a higher level of risk from our enemies. And I believe the twins are simply concerned about my well-being, especially Jelian, my fated mate. But the damage has been done already. My trust issues have been broken and compromised. My wolf must not trust any of them. They betrayed me once. They will betray me again if I give up. "You should reconsider Alpha Draku's second chance," he added. "you, of all the wolves, know best how it feels to become a lone wolf. We are simply trying to help you. Anyway, thanks for the tour. Jelian and I are already familiar with the school three days ago." What's more annoying about them being gone from my sight was that they wasted my time leading the tour when in fact he confessed it to himself. Ridiculous. Leaving no choice, I flashed to the library to start working as one of the caretakers of the books. One of the reasons I did not get the chance to reach my first subject is that I found out the library was looking for a part-time caretaker. My wolf badly needs to have extra income as soon as possible, even if it's ephemeral. So, I applied for the job. Good thing most people at the library know me and got hired on the spot. As soon as I got into the library, my wolf felt at ease when the first faces that greeted me were Karen and her female friends, whispering with each other at one of the tables in the corner. She smiled at me the second she notice my presence. "Come sit with us, Melvin." she offered which even surprised me the most. Since she got back alive from that incident, Karen kept noticing me compared to before when she barely turn her face at me. Now she even talks to me or breathes out my name. Perhaps her change of heart has something to do with what happened that night. Perhaps it is her way of showing her sincere apologies and gratitude for me. "I'd love to, but I'm here to work, Karen. First day. I have to impress my boss." I smiled back at her. "Quite, please!" says one of the students around. "This is a library, not a market." Karen lifted the tip of her shoulders while beaming at me. I, on the other hand, started picking those used books from evacuated tables. "All right. Enough of this Melvin thing. Let's talk about something else." whispers one of Karen's friends. "Like what?" Karen whispered back. Despite the distance between our spots, I could still hear them whispering when the silence of the entire library was deafening, especially when I have my werewolf senses on. "How about the night of the camping?" The book in my hands slip off to the floor which caught most of the student's attention. They gave me these deadly and irritated stares. They can't blame me for that. My wolf was taken aback as I did not expect the time would come for Karen to open up something to her friends. When I got the chance to analyze her scent, my wolf is certain she is not one of those who witnessed my shift. All their scents were registered in my system. In fact, the three of them, including Karen were there. Perhaps this is the reason Alpha Draku wants me to kill Karen. He is terrified that she might disclose to everyone about our werewolf kind. She is the main witness of the incident. It means she knows a lot of things, especially about me. "I've heard that you guys were attacked by some kind of a doglike monster. Is it true?" she added. "Wait. Is that the reason why Karen took a few days to get back to school? Are you still in shock, huh, Karen?"It seems that my world started falling apart when the sounds of the clock ticking reached my ears while waiting for Karen to open her mouth. Once she discloses my identity, I'm afraid that will be the end of my time. Karen was a very influential student in the school. Everything she says makes sense to everyone. "Karen, Can I talk with you for a sec?" I asked her before she could say a thing to them. "Come on, dude, we are in the middle of discussing something very important." annoyingly says one of Karen's friends. "Have some manners, can't you?" That statement put my wolf into an undesirable situation when it was not just Karen and her circle of friends looking at me viciously, but most students with us in the library. I already caused enough disturbance when I drop the book onto the floor earlier. So, before anyone could throw something to my face, I grab Karen's hand and drag her to the corner behind a towering shelf where no one can see or hear us.
Leaving no choice, I search for an empty but bigger table that can cater to their number before I could get a yelling from our ruthless manager. She already gives me a warning for being late on my first day of work. I need this job as it was way better compared to being a librarian. Working in the restaurant not only gives me a reasonable paycheck but also allows us to bring home leftover food. Getting leftovers, most if not all, nights could help me minimize spending dough for my dinner, or if given the chance, my breakfast could also be saved by that. "Can I have your orders now?" I respectfully asked them. And of course, with a smile on my face. "Can you just wait for us to call you?" Julian furiously said back on everyone's behalf, including Karen. "we got seated here like for three minutes." Part of me wanted to drop the order sheet to the table and stab the pen I was holding straight into Julian's eyes when my patience is getting thin already. If
My wolf then notices that Johndale swiftly enhances his werewolf senses while scanning the atmosphere including everyone's faces who are coming in and out of the main entrance. "We are attending the twin's party. Why? Are we in the wrong place? And who are you by the way? Are you a student from our school? Why am I not knowing you? Do you know my name?" Johndale simply asks us one question yet Karen bombarded him endlessly. I did not even expect that coming from her. But then again, I cannot blame Karen for that when I haven't introduced her to Johndale. "Before anything else, Karen, this man in front of us, is Johndale. Johndale, this woman beside me is Karen. You were the one that I confessed to each of you recently." Johndale suddenly drags me into the corner, leaving Karen alone from our spot. "You even told her about our secrets?" he could not help but raise his voice at me. "She already knows about me." I defensively said back. "So, I guess there's noth
"What? So you two intentionally waited for me before you could kill her?" my wolf quickly jump and land on in front of Karen before Julian could lay even the tip of his claws on her. Julian and Jelian suddenly exchange glances. The kind of glance that is telling me to get ready when something I less like is bound to happen at any second. No matter what happens, my wolf is going to protect Karen from them. They have to pass through me first before they could kill her. I know my wolf is being outnumbered. The possible battle is two against one. However, I know everything about Jelian. About how fast and strong is. Not enough to beat someone like me alone. Julian, on the other hand, is thrice faster and stronger than his twin sister. Even if our wolves did not tag along that much when Jelian and I are still mated, I heard rumors that Julian managed to beat four older wolves in one battle. He is not the kind of wolf I should feel at ease. I know my limitations a
As a result of exerting much of my wolf's force, Julian's claws were also extracted from my shoulder and his body was thrown away. My wolf risked flashing in Karen's direction to help her but Julian managed to stop me from doing so. He bumped into my body right before breaking my right leg. But it did not stop me from trying hard to save Karen. And I will make sure before the night end, Karen will be riding her car again heading back to her home. "Try harder, Melvin." Julian viciously uttered. "Then try harder stopping me, Julian," I uttered back right after flipping the broken bones of my leg back to its position. I barely moan despite the pain when I press my gums harder not to produce sound. As soon as my legs finally healed, I flash back to the tree again, this time, by jumping on top of Julian. High enough the only thing he did is to look at me cutting off the ropes that were tied on Karen's feet. "Behind you," she uttered in a faint tone. "What?
"And it's all your fault, you idiot!" there is no turning back from what I said to Julian. Call it disrespectful considering Julian has a noble name to uphold, but I have no regrets about saying that to him. He and Jelian deserve not to be respected. So, I shortly took a glimpse at Karen using one eye in the corner while the other eye was pointed back at Julian. As far as I can see, Karen's wolf started to ease off when I could no longer sense the rage inside her. Let alone she keeps on whimpering in the corner. And her legs were trembling. Her actions are an indication to me that her wolf no longer possesses a threat to the wolves around us. I just don't know what her circle of human friends thought about her. What if some of them recognize her? "Are you kidding me, Melvin? Don't you realize that you and your little wolf are outnumbered? Give her to us if you still want to live longer." Julian said. "And if I don't?" I insisted despite the undesirable
There are no signs of bluff or any lies in Draku's facial expression when he let out those words. Getting back to the pack, huh? I haven't experienced any difficulties since I was removed from the pack yet. However, I know for a fact a lone wolf can barely survive in the human world. My voice will not be heard in times of crisis. I'll become useless, be the target of discrimination, and freely expose to risks. Not that I don't trust Draku's words, but I owed him my life. Karen also owed her life to him. If he did not show up, perhaps bad things already happened to us. "Are you kidding me?" Julian spells out his disapproval. "you already disbanded and disowned that bastard from the pack, Alpha Draku. Everyone in the pack knows that. What do you think your members would think if they will know this nonsense, huh?" Draku turned his face back to Julian. "What everyone knows is that Karen is not one of us, Julian. And they know the one-week allocation I allotted to Me
And why there are no cops or ambulances who notice the incident? Did he even dial 9-1-1 to get rescued? Well. What else could I expect from someone with a brain issue? "I'm taking her to my place, would that be okay?" my arms could not wait for his response considering his condition, so I gently lifted Chloie's body and rush her to my apartment. The man with autism did not complain but he followed me instead. As soon as I set Chloie's body next to Karen, I inhaled deeply in disbelief when the man simply wander the tiny space of the apartment instead of helping to clean Chloie's bleeding body. I grab the bucket full of warm water from the corner which I once used to clean Karen and used the white cloth to wipe off the blood that stains Chloie's shirt. Who could have thought I could use them again on someone? Speaking of Karen, her body already stopped shivering. Her high body temperature, however, remains feverish thirty minutes ago when I left the apartment to buy
