MAGNUS POVThe after-party of Ruth's burial was in full swing and I kept an eye around to see that nothing happened out of place and it befitted a royal celebration. As much as the noise and festivities in the hall grated on my nerves, I knew that it was important to keep up these appearances. I had looked out for Sophie ever since we came to the hall for the ceremony but she was absent. I knew she would be in the room playing with Bryce or even reading a book. I planned to have a serious talk with her about the duties expected of a Luna queen. My wolf urged me to check on her. For some reasons, he was restless. I ignored him though. While it was true that we both missed her body, I wanted her to recover fully.I spotted Luke in a corner silently drinking and i went over to him. In the few days, I had tried to make him get back to his usual cheerful self but to no avail. I knew that in a way, he was blaming himself for not always been there for her. In his defense, his Beta duties we
SOPHIE'S POVI continued backing away from the Lycans as they approached me as I scanned the area quickly for a free route to escape. I couldn't just believe that I was trapped here. Two things happened in quick succession as I desperately tried to run . A black van I had not noticed coming cut my escape and the harsh sounds of its squealing tires filled the air. The back of the van opened widely and two more Lycans in black sprang out. They regarded me coldly with their glowing eyes as they both crouched down. I'm fast as I ran back up the deserted street they had come from but they were much faster. They both held down my hands but I resolved not to go down without a fight.I punched the guy on my left and his hold loosened. The other guy clawed me and I went down. My strength was nothing compared to the raw strength I felt coming from them. Something hit my head and everything faded into darkness.Confusion and fear overwhelmed me as I struggled to make sense of my surroundings. T
MAGNUS POVI cursed aloud as I realized that it was her abductor calling. The voice seemed familiar in a way but I was having a hard time placing it."Whoever you are, I'll make you regret the day you decided to cross me," I warned him.He gave a humourless chuckle which was meant to sound deep and menacing but failed to carry off that effect. The person was trying to mask his voice."You're not in any position to make threats, Magnus. I'll send a location to you tomorrow. Bring the queen, your mother there. It's only fair we trade queens at this point. Come alone." He said and cut the call before I could give a response."Fuck!," I groaned, angry at having to meet the condition of the abductor. At that moment, Luke walked in to report his findings. "I'm sorry, no one has seen or heard anything about her outside the gate.""Don't worry about that, she's not anywhere around here, she's been taken," I said, pacing the room to keep myself in check."Taken by whom," He cried out in surpri
MAGNUS POVI parked the Porsche a little distance away from the warehouse, hidden behind some trees, and turned off the engine. I steeled myself to be calm as I prepared to face whoever it was. I had to get through the conversation without breaking the abductor's head or something."Wait in the car," I instructed my mother. "I have to have a little chat with your goons first before the tradeoff."She nodded once and still did not say anything. For some reasons that I couldn't fathom, she seemed to be nervous herself about the whole thing. Who knew if she really didn't know the people behind this. I doubted it though. I got out of the car, taking a deep breath to steady my nerves. I needed to buy some time before Luke and the others came around. As I approached the entrance of the warehouse,I saw several figures waiting there, their faces were obscured by masks but I knew from their scent that they were members of our kingdom. I couldn't help but feel a sense of disgust at their betray
SOPHIE POVI watched in horror as Magnus went down to the ground amidst the heavy assault of the wolfsbane gas on him. I was bundled back into the van with Sinclair and the queen while the others entered the cars around and we all drove away quickly."Speed up," Sinclair shouted, knocking the driver's head as he drove. "Are you sure he's not following us? I don't trust that bugger.""No, he isn't, we got him pretty bad, he's still on the ground," One of the subordinates answered him."Drive faster, you dunce, backup could be arriving." He yelled to the driver who took the cue and increased the speed."Get a hold of yourself," The queen said cooly beside him. She had regained her confident air and appeared to be unaffected with what was going on around her.She caught me looking at her and removed the gas mask from my face. I inhaled the cool air with relief and also picked up other smells. For one, the queen had not taken a bath in days and she smelled terribly."We meet again, how in
SOPHIE POVI laid still on the steel floors of my confinement, my eyes fixated on the fading light of the lamp before me, while my thoughts wandered . Sinclair had locked me up not in the nice room around but in a cell of some sorts. My body ached from lying on the hard surface, but the pain faltered when compared to the fear that predated my mind. I was being sold to Kal Fang, what could be worse than that? I could cry to be released, but my tears would amass to nothing. These men were not the type to be swooned by beauty or emotions, the only thing that could possibly make them consider freeing me was Sinclair giving the order which didn't seem likely. My fate was sealed, so I wasted no energy in crying, it wouldn't do me any good. Perhaps I was being too dramatic, maybe destiny had more in stock for me. Kal Fang could be the m—My thoughts were halted by the rattling noise outside. Someone was coming, one of my abductors I presumed. It was the middle of the night, what could they
MAGNUS POVNo matter how much I tried, I just couldn't quell my conflicted emotions. Not only did I lose Sophie, I had just discovered that my own mother could potentially be the real mastermind of this, not even Sinclair. It couldn't be helped, my rage was justified, and so was my hate. I wasn't the type to act rashly, but right at this moment, putting a kill order on my mother's name was probably the kindest thing I could do for her at this point in time. It could have been a death on sight order, but I wanted to give her a chance to explain herself. I believed everybody had a story to tell regardless, and depending on her explanations, I will decide whether or not to do away with her. But for now, finding Sophie and bringing her back to safety was my biggest concern. "Employ all the soldiers you can! Find her!" I screamed at Luke . Though we had all been outsmarted, the fact that they had been waylaid without overpowering the kidnappers still stung me. There was no need guarding
SOPHIE POVThe soles of my feet hurt badly more than ever but I persisted in running. I'd been running since night, and now it was well beyond noon, yet I failed to stop running. I had no idea if the Lycans had now woken up and were chasing after me, the queen's last orders were for me to run, and until I felt the need to stop, I was going to keep running.I paused momentarily the instant a familiar structure came to sight, and I immediately felt like giving up on life. Throughout the night I've been going round in circles, and I was yet to realize till this very moment. How many times have I passed through the doors of the enemy?I immediately raced behind the protection of a tree to keep myself hidden from the eyes of the two men that had just exited my former cage. I couldn't recognise them, they weren't a part of Sinclair's group, but I knew better than to just throw myself out for them to see. Even though they looked a bit familiar, I remained hidden behind the tree waiting for
