Chapter 10

I met up with Jen and Selena at the end of the day. We arranged to meet up just outside the school entrance by the time I got there both Jen and Selena were waiting and to my surprise, Chase was there too.

Chase was talking to Jen about something I can’t hear what he is saying as I’m not close enough. As I approached them, he winked at me acknowledging my arrival, and took his leave. Watching him walk away my eyes never leaving him I ask Jen “He didn’t leave because of me, did he?” She looks at her departing brother walking further away.

“Oh no he just came to tell me to tell my mom he’s got an emergency football practice, so he’ll be home later.” I feel relieved and disappointed that he’s gone these feelings are so confusing I have never had them over a guy before and I’m intrigued to find out what they mean.

I bite my bottom lip watching Chase disappear from our sight and the girls notice what I’m doing. “You like him, don’t you?” Jen questions I go crimson feeling put on the spot.

“I don’t know, maybe I’ve never felt like this before, and when I do it’s with a guy I can’t pursue.”

“Sav I would rather him date you over her. Nobody in my family likes her” Jen tells me that inside secret and I feel a small sliver of hope. That is even if I have a chance, but looking at myself to her I don’t think I do.

“Anyway, I think you guys would make a cuter couple,” Selena says and that gives me some confidence with these mixed feelings I have.

We say our goodbyes and plan to meet back here before school starts tomorrow morning. After getting in my car, I sit in the now-emptying parking lot and made a quick phone call before driving home to arrange a start date at my new job.

That is another thing off my to-do list for this week. I have arranged my start date for next Saturday which gives me plenty of time to unpack at home and go to the football game next Friday. Once I get off the phone with my boss Heather, I leave the school parking lot and head on home. If I can remember the way home that is. Luckily enough getting home was easier than anticipated I really should have more hope in myself.

Arriving back home I see a couple of cars in the driveway, so I park behind the last car, get out, and head on inside. When I open the front door, I see a couple of people unpacking some of our boxes and hanging up our family pictures.

Walking further into the house I hear voices coming out of the office. One I recognize as my father’s and the other voice I have never heard before. I stand outside listening in to what is being said “Maxwell it’s fantastic work you have done in our North Carolina office, and I can’t wait to see what you bring to our office.”

“Thank you Mr. Lockwood I very much appreciate it.” Wait what? Dad’s boss is here! Now!

“Maxwell please call me Stuart we’re family now.” The voice of Dad’s boss comes closer to the door I try to make myself look non-suspicious as the door to the office opens and a tall man with salt and peppered color hair comes out of the room. He turns around and bumps into me.

“Oh, pardon me young lady, well you must be Maxwell’s daughter Savannah.” I look up to see some familiar green eyes but where have I seen them before I can’t think.

“Yes, sir hi I’m Savannah.”

“Well, you must certainly get your beauty from your mother, and you most definitely got your daddy’s eyes.” I feel my cheeks warm over his comment.

“Thank you, Mr. Lockwood sir, and might I say I’m looking forward to tonight’s dinner party at your home.”

“We are looking forward to it ourselves, my wife is excited to meet you after what my daughter has told her about you and a little birdie told me about your music skills, I’m hoping we get to hear you play a song for us tonight.”
