It wasn’t a normal evening at all, Eliana was dressed formally even though it was just a dinner with her family. Her hair was open yet nicely styled; she wore a purple top, paired with a black mini shirt which had a slit on the thigh. She was wearing a long brown jacket over it, and had paired it with brown boots, which she had removed after arriving at the dinner.
She was sitting straight, not even daring to breathe loudly around them. She didn’t want them to be more disappointed in her but knew it was too late already, no matter what she did they wouldn’t ever be satisfied. They won’t ever praise her for anything or even show a little sign that they loved her. It felt suffocating to be with them even though she had lived with them for years.
Her mother, Julia, wore a silk dress and was focusing only on her son. Her father, Owen, dressed in a black suit as always, was eating quietly. He had not even looked at her once since she had arrived. Her elder brother, Robert, dressed formally just to show his father he was a good son, was just enjoying the show. He loved to see her suffer and put her in a difficult situation in front of the father.
"You didn't even bother to come back once after leaving this house?" Owen finally spoke up. Eliana froze on hearing those words; she could sense that he was disappointed in her as he refused to look at her in the eyes. None of them knew about her powers and if she did tell them, they’d say she was mad and find another way to get rid or her. They might even send her to a rehab or something.
"She's a little too busy, dad," Robert spoke up before she could. "You know how it is, the youngsters want to enjoy their life to the fullest. And I have got to know that she spends most of her time drinking in bars." He smirked cunningly as once again he was making her look bad in front of the parents.
Eliana hated this. Her brother shamelessly framed her again. She clenched her fingers around the fork that she was holding. She was tired of this, these taunts and arguments. This wasn’t how a family was supposed to be. Why did they even call her when they had to treat her this way? They were never gonna praise her so why even bother keeping up to their expectations.
"I thought you didn't want me to come back…" She finally spoke up. It was the limit, with everything going on in her life, she didn’t want things to just happen and ruin her.
"Why... did you think so?" Her father looked at her in confusion. Her brother and mother, on the other hand, exchanged nervous glances. She had never talked like this, not to her father especially.
"You know, after you threw me out of this house, you'd not want me to come back, right?" She said in a sarcastic tone. They all were shocked to see her like that. She was rebelling in front of her father for the first time.
"Eliana, behave!" Her mother gave her a stern look.
"Oh please," Eliana scoffed. "You worked the most to make that happen. You wanted your son to own everything. Isn’t that why you treated me like a maid since childhood? Beating when you felt frustrated, making me do all your work and letting me freeze outside in the snow."
"Eliana, stop!" Her father shouted at her. She stopped at once as she respected him the most. But there was a gap between the two that could never be fulfilled again.
"Don't forget that you're adopted so we can throw you out anytime we want. " Julia reminded her. Eliana smiled faintly on hearing that.
“Yeah…” She said and forced a smile.
She was an adopted child. Robert wasn't as excellent as a child, which made Oliver anxious. He was always afraid that he won't be able to inherit the family business, therefore, he adopted a girl. Hoping that she would be his heir and also a key to join hands with some other rich businessmen. But little did he know that he was just ruining the girl's life by giving her to the cruel mother. She was bullied by the son and mother’s duo. In the end, they succeeded and threw her out of the house and took over every bit of her property.
"Then why the hell did you adopt me in the first place? To torture me and use me to vent your frustration? I was better off in that orphanage, at least I wouldn’t have suffered so many mental disorders that way.." She finally said it. The thing she had been hiding for years, ever since her first visit to the therapist at the age of 13. And she said it while looking coldly in her father's eyes, making him fear her and realize all his mistakes within seconds.
She smiled as she saw her father lower his head slowly and got out of the chair. She turned around and walked away from them.
In an instant, Owen realized how big of a mistake he had committed. He started regretting not focussing on her life and leaving her alone to deal with everything.
“Get out of here bitch!”
“No one wanted you here, to begin with.”
She was hearing their thoughts again even when she didn’t want to.
“What have I done to this poor child?” Her heart sank on hearing her father’s thoughts. She wanted to hug him and tell him that it wasn’t his mistake, he was manipulated by the other two beside him. But even she knew that it was a little too late to regret these things.
She took a deep breath and left the house. She was feeling bad and hurt. Like she was a monster who had ruined everything but at the same time she knew that it was already ruined years ago, there was no way to save this relationship. Still, it felt as if they had ripped a healing wound open, cruelly and painfully.
Eliana got on the bus after leaving her parents’ house, and her mind was a complete mess because of what had just happened. She knew things would go wrong, they could never tolerate each other. However, still all that was affecting her a lot.Only one person was coming to her mind, Leo. She needed him, his warmth and comfort. She took the bus and went to his place without informing him beforehand. She wasn’t thinking of any of the problems that she had with him. At this point, he was just the only person who understood her and stood by her side even after knowing everything about her. That was one reason she was still with him, hoping he would be back that way.The journey through the bus was quite long and her mind was a mess the whole time. She was overthinking a lot, getting anxious, and losing her mind again. Her hands trembling and her eyes looking around desperately as if she was trying to find something but she couldn’t; she didn’t even know what she was loo
"I...I can't anymore…" She closed her eyes and remembered that guy from 2 months ago. "I can't endure this anymore…" Tears streamed down her eyes. "I'm sorry but I'm breaking the promise...I'm sorry…" She sobbed and begged for forgiveness from the person she didn’t even know. Cause ironically he was the only one who cared for her."You're apologizing to me, a step away from death but still crying so much, why?" That guy appeared behind her. She flinched cause as far as she knew there was no one around her. But it wasn’t that much of a big shock as she had doubted his identity already. He stepped on the fence standing beside her. He had the same appearance as before, a blue shirt over a white t-shirt paired with jeans. He looked a little faded just as before, one could see through his body as if it was a little transparent."Why are you like this?" He wiped away her tears. "Why are you hurting yourself so much…?"She sobbed harder and fell on her
"W..who are you?" Her voice quivered as she looked at Luan. "Why can't he see you or hear you…?" She referred to Leo, who couldn’t even sense Luan’s presence the whole time. Luan could tell that she was indeed shocked by Leo’s reaction earlier. However, she wasn’t afraid.Luan smiled softly as he approached her, to hold her hand so he could get some strength to tell her the truth. She didn't back away as someone else in that situation would. She wanted to know his reality so wasn't scared of facing it no matter what it was."Now's the time I'll tell you my reality." He looked deeply into her eyes and extended his hand towards her, and she took it without hesitation. She could see a sense of sincerity in his eyes. Her heart couldn’t agree with the thought that he was a bad guy so she didn’t believe that thought at
The rays of the sun entered the room, falling onto Eliana as she was sleeping on the floor, a thin blanket covering her body and a pillow supporting her head. It was nothing like the usual noisy morning. She could hear birds chirping for the first time. She wasn’t tired and was feeling light and no stress, no nightmares, and no emptiness as she usually felt. She sat up and looked towards the window, the sky was clear and the sun was shining brightly. She smiled as the weather was just uplifting her good mood. She leaned against the sofa again and just admired the beauty of nature.“Feeling better?” Luan asked and he popped out of nowhere. She jumped up due to shock.“Sorry.” He said and laughed awkwardly.
“Why are we here?” Eli asked as she stared at the place in front of her. She looked nervous. They were in front of a therapist’s clinic. And that stressed her out, she didn’t want to be there.“You need to go in,” Luan said in a commanding tone.“Noooo!” Eli whined but he grabbed her so she wouldn’t run.“Eli, you know you gotta take the first step someday.” He tried to convince her.“But nooo” She whined and they sat on a bench in a park nearby.“Now tell me…” He said calmly as he faced her. She was fidgeting with her fingers again, scratching the tips of her fingers. He held both her hands to stop her from doin
“Is this your college?” Luan said as he stared at the college building. His jaw dropped cause it was way bigger than he had expected, with numerous buildings built at some distance. She smiled on seeing him so mesmerized at such a small thing. They arrived at the college after leaving the clinic.“Haven’t you seen it while roaming around?” She teased him.“Ohh...that was a lie.” He said after a long pause as he shrugged and she looked at him all confused.“I put positive energy around you to protect you so my powers got weak. I had to go away to heal myself a little…” He explained and looked away as he was nervous to see how she would react. She didn’t say anything and just kept walking
“You were amazing!” Luan said as they came back to the apartment. She smiled softly and was a little shy. Even she couldn’t believe that she had done something like that. The whole day went normally, attending lectures the whole day but she didn’t feel so depressed as Luan was by her side the whole time to talk nonsense and make her laugh. She didn’t hate it at all. Instead, she liked that there was someone who cared for her and was happy to see her move on from her past. She smiled and walked towards him.“Thank you for coming into my life.” She said before she hugged him tightly. He didn’t say anything further as he realized that she needed some comfort. They stayed like that for a moment, holding
“So...let’s try to do things that you love to cheer you up.” She said with a smile as she held his hand.“But you’re not well.” He told her and was worried. She could actually feel her body slowly get weaker.“I know but I don’t care about that right now.” She said with a soft smile and he finally gave in. They left the store after buying that dress because Luan suggested doing so.“So what do you wanna do?” She asked him as they stood outside that store.“Food…” He mumbled.“But you said you can’t eat.” She looked at him in confusion.“I was really
