Chapter 44

"She is going to be okay. She just needs to rest. Plenty of rest now that her due date is near." The doctor said as he gave me a reassuring smile. 

"Okay. Thank you." I stood up from the chair and then shook his hand. I took my seat beside Maria as the doctor went out of her hospital room. Her leg was put in a cast and thankfully she didn't have a concussion with the fall. She will be alright. She has to be. 

I took her hand in mine as I placed a kiss on it. The door opened to reveal Joe and Philip. 

"How is she?" Joe asked as she moved closer to Maria's bed and peered at her sleeping friend. 

"The doctor said she will be fine. She just needs to rest." I exhaled.

"She will be okay, don't agree yourself." 

How can I not when I out her in this position. I put her in this bed myself. I didn't protect her away from Beverly enough. 

"Stop blaming yourself. I can see it in your face. It will do you no good." Ph
