Rael POV“Work on all of these,” I instructed the scientists who stood along with Kayden. It was nearing midnight already, and nobody was working in the company. Well, nobody human anyways. The people I instructed left with a bow, leaving me with Kayden in the hallway. As soon as they were out of sight, I looked to Kayden.“Has the Council called?” I asked the man, who shook his head in response.“No, the Elders haven’t either. They seem to trust in your word since the last meeting.”“Good.” My jaw clenched as the thought of them nitpicking me. I knew what I had to do already. I was focused and devoted to the mission, so I didn’t need their interference or doubts.I was Rael Allston, leader of one of the most powerful packs. Pressure was the last thing I needed.A flash of red hair came to mind.I stopped in my tracks.No. I must fight this. Not tonight.“Rael?”My head snapped to Kayden at the address. Despite knowing beyond all reason that it wasn’t possible, something akin to disap
Rael POVI jumped out of my seat, sprinting out of the library. My heart raced, the blood rushing through my ears. Breathing in deeply, I did my best to block out all the sounds to trace her. My instincts didn't fail me as I traced her scent and rushed toward it. There was no time for me to call, or inform anybody. My mind had become a tunnel vision, with only one mission in mind.Save her. Save mate.Desperation hinged around me like a cloak as I rushed through tracking the scent. Strangely, there was nothing else mixed with her scent. No sign of any extra scent, wolf or dankeh. But I was far from satisfied, not until I saw her safe. Finally I tracked her to her room, the screams emanating from the door. The moment I twisted the door lock, trying to enter, I found that it was locked. The image of the dankeh standing over her bed came to my mind, as vivid as it was on that day. The thought reappeared and intensified with every scream I heard, inciting more rage and something more co
Rose’s POVThere was darkness.I ran around the cold forest, around the halls, around places I didn't know. I didn't know where I was, the images were all mixed, but I ran from something. Something that was behind me.The growl came again before I found myself on the ground, suffocating under the glowing blue eyes. More growls came filling my ears until I could barely hear myself.“You can't escape.” They said.Still I struggled, even though I felt their growls and laughs and hot breaths against mine. I screamed and still fought, even as pain bloomed from my body and I felt myself rendered.Something pushed up against me, and a muffled voice came out of nowhere. I couldn't notice it. Not against the loud growls that sent me screaming.“Rose!” I stilled, meeting darkness.“You're safe.”The rest became muffled, as though I was drifting through. I had said something, I heard something in return. A comforting voice told me a story.Something threaded through my hair, sending comforting
Rose’s POVI didn't know what to expect from Real. After all, he was a mystery. But I hadn't expected…this. The library was perhaps the best thing I had seen in the entire time, despite the wonderful creations I saw. But what I saw now was absolutely beautiful.I looked around. It was a garden. No, the word 'garden' was too little for this. With its vastness, it might well have been an entire park.Flowers bloomed all around with large trees framing the entrance.“George never took me here before. the place is amazing!” i murmured in awe.“I wouldn't be surprised.” Rael said.I could have sworn I heard something strange in his voice, but I was in too much awe to think about it.“As expected from a billionaire I guess.” I said, turning to him with a small smile.Although I had begun acting more familiar with him, I was still hesitant as to whether teasing was okay. So far however, he hadn't.Instead of dwelling there, I moved forward, looking at the trees and shrubs which were all fine
Rose’s POV“So, are you ever going to tell us what's gotten you so moody?”I looked up from the book I was looking at, turning towards Jade who looked at me intently. They were in my room laying on the set of couches I had. Despite being here multiple times they were in a way the size of my room, similar to an apartment. Now all three of us were laying on the couches, Harriet on a phone call, whilst I read a book.“What?" I asked her.Jade sighed lightly before leaning onto me and speaking.“You've been completely out of it since we came. You've barely spoken and even now you're lost in your thoughts. Is there anything wrong?”If it was anything else, I would have instantly spilled it to them, telling them every detail and asking for advice. For the first time ever though, I held myself back. The look of Rael's face still haunted me hours after. It wasn't their fault though. Jade hadn't intended for him to hear and wasn't even aware of his presence. It was all my fault. That was why,
Rose’s POVAdian's demeanour changed to one much more serious and even thoughtful. After a moment he let out a defeated sigh before he looked at me.“I think it's best if you ask Rael yourself.” He said, shaking his head.My jaw clenched at the vague reply. My guilt for Rael was still there, but now there laid curiosity.Rael had some questions to answer.Looking back at the man in front of me, I raised my chin high.“If that's all, then it's best you leave," I said.I turned away, wanting to spend as little time as possible with him, especially after what I had just learned. To my chagrin he proceeded to follow me, stopping at the door. I couldn't help but glare at him as he did.“Well, it was certainly nice meeting you ladies. I could say we were both definitely in for a surprise today.” He said.It may or may not have been my imagination when I saw his eyes drift to Kayla for more than a cursory moment, but I wasn't ready to think about that now. Finally, his eyes switched to mine
Rose’s POVOh no.This time, I didn’t hesitate to run.My lungs pounded against me, aching all the more as I took in the cold air. My panting was loud and I ran as quickly as I could, exerting all my muscles and energy. Before I could think, I opened my mouth and let out a large scream for help.“Somebody help!”My breaths grew harsher the faster I tried to run. I was still nowhere nearing the mansion. In my anger, I had underestimated the distance I had rushed through. Now I was paying severely for it.The food in my belly, no matter how little it was, churned inside me. Fighting the nausea the feeling gave, I did my best to run faster.Swallowing saliva in my drying mouth, I gave one more scream.“Rael!”As one of my legs shifted backwards, I felt the warm breath shift against my ankle, raising more panic and fear in me. I knew instinctively that its teeth had caught the feet of my clothes. Still I pulled hard, trying to run as normal. I ignored the ripping of fabric that came aft
Rael’s POV“You're a bastard, Rael Allston.”Her words came to me. Cutting and tear laden. It was the words of the young woman who was breathing soundly beside me, leaning onto me with her arm tightly linked to mine. I looked at her, watching every rise and fall movement of her frame. Her eyes, which had not fully recovered from the swollen mess it was due to last night, stood out more. She was right. I was a bastard. Probably the worst of them, but it wasn't for the reason she thought.I carefully extricated my arm away from her with ease. Her arm slipped off, resting on the couch.Standing up, I managed to gather her in my arms, lifting her up bridal style. She didn't wake up, not once.Carrying her brought her scent so close to me. I shut my eyes for a moment to reject the push my instincts gave.I walked slowly out of the library toward her room.On the way back, we crossed the dining room, where the pack members were packing the dishes full of unfinished food. When the older woma
