(Kaeleigh’s POV)

I followed Marissa to the large glass-walled conference room, which was already filled with people. Sat at the head of the table was Emmerson Kane. I recognised him from all the magazine articles and from other business events. He didn’t even glance at me as Marissa led me to the seat next to him. She passed me an agenda, and I briefly looked through it, familiarising myself with the points. I can see one of the points is my name. Oh yay, attention, I thought sarcastically.

Emmerson looked up and around the room and his eyes lingered on an empty seat as a look of frustration crossed his face. 

“Where is Adelaide?” he asks no one in particular. My heartbeat sped up briefly at the mention of her name. Clearly hearing it, Emmerson glanced my way before looking round the roo
