123 - Beg

“Hilbert is on his way. He should be here any minute,” she replied.

It seemed that my anxiety could not escape Amelia's gaze. She so easily caught the anxious look on my face, with her arms suddenly wrapped around me.

“I know it's hard. I really do. I understand,” she said behind my ear. “And it's all my fault. If I hadn't left Hilbert that day, none of this would have happened. I'm the one who should be blamed.”

I felt her gentle touch on my head, unchanging even before her amnesia wore off.

“Amelia, you always blame yourself,” I said, my voice seeming to float somewhere. My mind couldn't hold on to the thought of Hilbert.

“You should know, none of this is your fault,” I snapped. “Everything has already happened. And there is no one to blame.”

“So, why do you have that look on your face?” he asked. Our embrace broke, and his eyes caught mine in an interrogating look. “I can see the anxiety in you. There's something you're thinking about. What is it? Does it have to do with Hilbert?”
