Chapter Five

Maria had called to tell me that Dad had come home late last night. He was drunk and Mom was mad. She said she couldn't help to lessen the atmosphere between them and she ended up locking herself up in her room.

I was worried that Mom would take it out on Dad later on, because she didn't like picking fights with him when he was in a sour mood and I understood why.

She was human and she somehow felt afraid of Dad. Dad once told her that he couldn't beat her, Mates never beat their partners but nothing could ever reassure mom especially whenever his teeth and claws elongated.

But I knew Dad told the truth, he wasn't a coward and he'd rather lock himself up in a room to calm his wolf down than lay a hand on either of us. But Mom still cowered away.

Maria and I had chatted about her first day at college. She was very excited, and she said it wasn't what she had expected from the start. She had thought she would be left in a corner by herself, and sort of snubbed. And she said she had imagined herself crying in a corner if she was snubbed.

She had three friends now, and she was very happy.

She talked about how the three girls fussed around her, each dragging a seat at her side. And I couldn't help but laugh at that. Maria was a very beautiful and lovely girl, who wouldn't love her?

When I asked about the boys, she got nervous and I laughed at her. I knew she wasn't comfortable discussing that with me. I always wanted to, but she was always shy.

I wanted to play the big sisterly role on her, share each other's secrets, unlike how Mom never made us confide in her.

But she was still hesitant in discussing that part of her life. And I let her be, since I knew she had just started college, there was still time for her to start discussing boys, at least her classes should be her first priority at this stage.

"You should know you have a big sister who you can share your little secrets with concerning all matters including boys." I had told her, and I knew even without being with her that she was blushing.

She kept silent, and I went on.

"But it would be good if you take things slow, no rush. Enjoy your time and remember that you only get to go to college once. Because before you know that, you will be out and start practicing your course." I had advised , and I heard her gentle growl.

She ended the call with the excuse of Dad calling her, and when I told her I couldn't hear him call for her, she replied that he was reaching her through their mind link.

It was my turn to remain silent, and I allowed her to end the call.

Sometimes, I wished I shared that little part of the werewolf thing with them, but since I wasn't a werewolf, I was stuck with the human body. Maybe the reason why I didn't shift was because Mom was human and also because of the fact that Dad had shifted late.

••~••

I removed the duvet from my body and sat up well on the bed. I had my body pressed against the wall with my legs hugging my body. I placed my head in between my legs while I inhaled my scent. I smelled like lavender, and letting my nose fill with my scent, I sniffed my body.

I smiled because Dad always did that. He would come sniffing on my body to make sure that I was still pure. It wasn't something I appreciated too much because I thought he was questioning my infidelity and I did not like that. But the way he always did it made me not be mad at him.

I still hadn't thought about the Alpha yet. I was supposed to meet him but somehow the nerve I had then left me, I didn't think I was ready yet to go near his territory.

This place was still considered a land of humans and I knew only few humans knew that werewolves existed.

But the worry in my head was how to be able to get into the Moonlight pack. It was clear that I was going to seduce him but how to get myself noticed without having my head cut off before I actually had the chance to do anything bothered me.

I shook my head to stop myself from thinking much, whatever would be would be and I wasn't going to change that.

Right now, all I needed was to have breakfast, eat something solid unlike the bread and tea I had for dinner.

My tummy growled, as if to confirm that. And I got up from my bed and headed towards the kitchen.

I had breakfast prepared thirty minutes later, and I sat on the bed with my plate full with stir fried spaghetti and the hotness burned my face.

Sitting before the window,I ate my food calmly while watching people walking up and down. The streetlights were still on and I watched the city from there. I never knew how beautiful Claire was, I had thought it would be like a local town filled with boring images.

But the view was amazing.

I was getting excited for no reason, and it wasn't like I was here to live a privileged life. I was here for a purpose, and that little touch of exploitation was not included on the list.

On the night before I came here, I had written a list of things I wanted to do. It came like this;

One, Come to Ireland.

Two, Learn about the Alpha.

Three, Seducing him.

Four, Ending his life.

Those were the things included, and I counted them on my mind, and I wasn't going to change that.

Since I was going out today, I might as well wear something presentable,I thought to myself.

The first place I was making a stop at was to the library. I planned on researching werewolves, so I'd know about the legends. I didn't really think that I would find something, but somehow I knew there was bound to be someone who loved to write about animals and believe they existed in their world.

Standing in front of the closet, just after coming out from the shower, I began to look for a casual but yet presentable outfit.

I brought down a red tank top with two buttons up on the front, and tossed it out on the bed. On the left corner of the closet, my eyes caught on a black high waist trousers, which I had bought just last week. Mom had suggested some new clothing and I'm glad I had listened to her.

I finished off my attire with a pair of flat shoes.

I stood outside the large building with the inscription of 'Library' written on it. I had my knapsack slung clumsily on my left shoulder which matched my fitted crop top.

The building stood tall and beautiful, and it was painted white, and I walked in. I met the librarian inside, she was sitting on a rocking chair with her head bent over the book she was reading and I couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was.

Her blonde hair was tied up in a French style, with a beautiful hair clip holding it together. She had tight jeans on with a long turtle neck that did well to show her full body curves.

I coughed before making my way towards her and she looked up immediately when I got near. She sized me up with her cat eyes and I felt a little uneasy under her gaze.

I nodded awkwardly at her.

"Good afternoon." I said, my hands holding tight to my knapsack.

"Good afternoon." She nodded, her eyes looking at how possessive I clutched my bag. "Bags are not allowed. You can drop it on the swing, and pick it up when you are done reading."

"Sure."

I made my way to where the swing was and slumped my bag on it. I was reluctant to leave my bag but I had no option since that was the rule.

On the shelves were piled many books of different kinds and similar books were divided into sections with a preview of what each shelf contained.

On the left side of the hall, down in the middle was a section with 'HISTORY' boldly written on it and I made my way towards it.

They were all lined perfectly and I touched the tip of my hand on the wood to feel if it was dusty or not. And the latter was the case. It was obvious that they had a proper cleaner.

After a while of searching, I found the perfect one for me. It was called, The Tales of Werewolves and I took it down.

I started reading.
