Chapter Ten

I listened intently as Leo told me about his past. He had a younger sister who he and his Mom used to pet, but she had died when she had gone swimming with some other pubs.

According to the pubs - he said - they were all having a good time playing with one another. And most of them were diving into the river. And his sister had joined in. Everyone knew she was scared of diving and they told her not to, but she insisted on doing it. To prove to them she could do what they did too.

Then she flipped.

And fell over a cliff.

Everywhere had gone quiet, as they were all in shock. Until her best friend, Mila, screamed and got the attention of the Sheriff who happened to be in the neighborhood.

"I would have saved her if I had been there with all of them. But no, I was proud to be be swimming with little pubs." He cried, and I made him lie down on my laps. I could tell he had blamed himself for that, but it wasn't his fault in the least.
