Alex’s flashback on the time he just met Jasmine

The clinic’s waiting room felt like a prison cell. The walls closed in around me, and every tick of the clock echoed the pounding in my chest. I paced back and forth, my mind replaying the past few months since Jasmine had stumbled into my life. That first meeting, her desperate eyes, and the way she clung to hope despite everything—it all seemed so far away now.

The door to the examination room opened, and Jasmine stepped out, her face pale and eyes wide with anxiety. I immediately went to her, searching her expression for any sign of what the doctor had said.

"Jasmine, what did they say?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

She looked down, her fingers twisting nervously. "I'm pregnant," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

The world seemed to tilt around me. Pregnant. The word echoed in my mind, and for a moment, I couldn't speak. I forced myself to take a deep breath, trying to stay calm for her sake.
