Chapter 1

"... The culprit of these deaths is rumored to have murdered at least 10 men. He remains hindered but his case has made the detectives baffled. He is reported to have attacked his prey at their homes or somewhere out of sight, yet the 10 men are reported to have been bitten by animal bites, giving him the name, "Wolf guy". The distinctive and unidentifiable evidence of abnormal behavior of humans. However, the…"

The huge tv in the lucrative parlor displayed the midnight news. Alex clicked a remote as the tv went blank. He turned and stared in concern at the petite figure before him.

"Well that sounds… so horrifying," She said laughing nervously.

Alex wasn't concerned about the information derived from the news but was more concerned about her. He leaned forward to drop the remote but paused as he stared at her pleading. Instead, she pretended not to see it.

He dropped his arms on his knees making the loose T-shirt he wore reveal the abs underneath.

"This wolf man is starting to get a reputation from it. " He said as he leaned against the sofa, watching her every move. " And I am afraid he is more than a treat to the people,"

For the second time since she visited him, Amelia glanced at him with those huge blue eyes. For a moment, she thought of him as a handsome man, the type every woman wants in their dreams, his dark curly hair that fell on his shoulders. Broad shoulders with firmed muscles and a smile that reaches his green eyes that feels like morning dew.

She just wished to jump into those strong arms and have a delicious taste of them.

But that wasn't possible because he wasn't Erin.

"You know, you don't have to go home tonight… it is dangerous out there," Alex's alluring voice jolted her out of her thoughts, as she felt a strong hand on her skin.

Red flag!

Amelia stood up abruptly like there was a fire on the sofa. She picked up her handbag as she flashed a smile at him not quite meeting his eyes.

"Thank you for your concern, Alex, but I can't sleep here. I prefer my bed because it keeps me more comfortable thinking. By the way, don't you think it is a bad idea for a lady and a gentleman to sleep on the same bed?" She said, " And a little danger outside can't hurt me,"

Alex's lips parted like they were about to say something, but Amelia turned, pretending not to notice it. With a sigh, he gave up, he got up on his feet and walked her out to the door.

She paused at the door, and Alex thought she was about to reconsider her statement earlier and stay a night here. But instead, she reached her hands out and took her heavy winter coat that was in the lines of the hooks. It was winter and the cold outside was devastating.

She heaved a sigh of relief as her house was about 6 blocks away. Alex appeared before her, opening the door for her to leave.

"Are you sure you don't want to reconsider?" He said quietly, as he helped her adjust the coat.

She shrugged her shoulders and got out of the house," I am fine," She said, her face dark, " I am just tired, a little sleep tonight will do the trick," Amelia was trying, with all her best to avoid her best friend, she doesn't want to accept the fact that he has feelings for her. She was tired of the constant pretense or lack of interest in him or anyone else because of a man, who betrayed her almost 6 years ago, and having a heart that doesn't open to love was torture to her.

She was tired of being lonely

Alex waited until she had her coat on and purse in her pocket, then without hesitating pulled her into a warm hug. Amelia widened her eyes a little and closed them slowly as she held onto his sturdy waist and sighed heavily, her head placed on his chest.

He enclosed his strong arms around her for a tight hug, "He doesn't deserve what you gave him, Amelia. No matter what happens he doesn't deserve your tears and pain," His voice deepened as they echoed inside her ears. She knew he was making a point, but that won't change what has happened.

"I'm sorry," She wimped.

Alex broke the hug and exhaled as his hands ran through his thick locks, "Don't be, you are leaving early tonight so there is much time for me to sleep tonight. You have done me a favor already, so coffee Is on me tomorrow, ah ah no but," He smiled tightly as he stared at those blue eyes that said they weren't at fault for the situation, only if things were different.

But, just like always those eyes stared at him with an affection for another man. Taller, broad shoulders, square jaws that twisted anytime they were irritated or angry, those icy-blue eyes that penetrate through the soul living one naked before them.

Grunting in frustration at her own, pathetic mind, Amelia turned for the door, "see you tomorrow,"

"Are you sure about me not walking you home? Or at least call a taxi? "Alex asked once more, opening the door as she stepped out quietly.

She shook her head abashed, blinking back the daziness she felt," I'm very sure about it, thanks for the warm coffee," She beamed.

Alex and she have been best friends since college, and he knew about her story of Erin's disappearance days after he took her virginity. She and Alex met a year after the incident when they were interns for the same company, that was when Amelia thought Erin must have encountered some troubles. But just a few weeks later, she learned that maybe he was gone, Erin hadn't been bullied or killed in an accident.

He just… disappeared

Alex had to listen to how she whined all through the years about her heartbreak and trust issues. He knew about her moving on with her life but he just wanted to be the one she moved on with.

"But haven't gotten a gist of it?" He said, putting out a hard smile," There is a wolf guy out there killing people and I have to make sure you are safe back home,"

Amelia's huge eyeballs rolled at his statement…

"Thankfully, he only kills men. I think I'm good to go," She smiled as she walked out of the house. Just as Alex closes the door and her feet step on the top of the stairs, a huge wave of dizziness enclaves her. With a deep sigh, she strode down the brownstone, gasping at the frigid air, as her breath made a stream of clouds in front of her.

Amelia tucked her hands into her coat, fearing that the cold might freeze them, and turned left to head for the crosswalk on the corner that will take her 2 blocks out of her way. And keep her on a lit street.

Except, just two feet later another wave of dizziness enclaved her but this time higher than the previous one, and on a whim, she turned on her heels in the opposite direction. There was no streetlight in this place but it was a safe neighborhood and she'll get home faster. She was just too…damn tired to stay out here in the cold, all she craved was to sit beside the fireplace with a steam coffee in hand.

Lifting her eyes off the sidewalk before her face, she caught a wimp of a man's silhouette hiding there in a corner but one of the street lights indicated someone was there watching her. A drop of adrenaline dropped into her stomach as she pounded against Its rib cage.

She stopped walking, she subconsciously sucked in cold air ready to scream for help when the man's shadow withdrew but for a split second, his half face was reflected in the light and her heart stopped beating.

Amelia had a vivid memory of those silver hair and dark blue eyes that makes one drunk in them when stared at. Those silver hair falls off his face when he is thinking. Those broad shoulders, and eerie presence he gives out, like a predator watching his prey. Her eyes widened In recognition when those eyes went to hers.

She whooped in the cold air as she let out a scream of disbelief in them.

"Erin?!"
