Chapter Eighty -Three

MAX'S POV

Amelia stood frozen and for a moment, I turned, knowing she was frazzled by the sight of Eve and Luke at the funeral, and I was livid too. Yet her stiffening was even more worrisome. I turned to stare at her face, and in that moment, I saw that her mouth was open as if to give a scream, yet she was eerily still. I tried to trace her line of sight, and I saw that she had seen Xavier in his coffin. Her gaze was fixed on him, unblinking.

I began to feel her body shake and to salvage the situation, I pulled her into my arms and eveloped her in a hug. Before then, her eyes were flashing between green and grey. I couldn't risk her transforming in front of the crowd and losing control. I whispered to her ear, "Take a deep breath Amelia, take a deep breath. It's okay. It's okay."

I felt her hand on my sides, clutching me tightly and her claws digging into my skin. It felt uncomfortable, but I kept whispering into her ears. I felt her relax and encircle me in a hug, too. I let her go
