Chapter Eighty

AMELIA’S POV

I couldn’t understand it. One moment, I am notified of my baby’s passing and I am checking his heartbeat myself, and the next, I lose control of my very own body. My very own body. I couldn’t even explain what was going on. All I knew was that I began to jerk so rapidly, and before long, I felt the second-greatest pain I'd ever felt after childbirth. My bones began to break.

I couldn’t help but let out a scream. Amidst this, I saw Max charge into action. He ushered everyone out of the room and then shot the door firmly behind them, leaving just me, him, and Xavier in the same room.

First it was the bones in my arms, then the bones in my leg, so I couldn’t stand and instead lay on the floor, screaming in pain. Then my spine broke, and I couldn’t help it as more tears fell from my eyes.

Max knelt beside me and, with so much gentleness and calmness, said, “Calm down, Amelia. Calm down.”
