Chapter Forty - Eight

MAX’S POV

Once we got back to the house, I’d doubled the security, Amelia jumped right out of the car and said, “Race you indoors!”

It felt surreal, the way I couldn’t just imagine what my life was like without her. I couldn’t believe the low quality I’d been living before I met her. Now, with her by my side, this was true living. This was the real living. I got out of the car and already knew that I couldn’t catch up with her.

I followed her potent scent and found her in the kitchen, standing on a stool rummaging through some cupboards overhead. “What are you doing? Winner girl.”

She beamed at me. “Yes, I won the race so, I get to order you around for the rest of the day.” Her face grew serious as she said, “I’m making you dinner.”

I sat up from the stool I’d sunk into. This was a first. “Urh, what’s happening?”

She shrugged and said, “Well, let’s say it’s an apology dinner. I’m sorry for the last row we had. Just like even when you didn’t know who my birth family was, you stuck by
