Chapter 29

The sound of footsteps echoed through the deserted alleyway, sending shivers down my spine. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end as the steps grew louder and closer. My heart raced with fear, but I didn't have the courage to turn around and face my pursuer.

I recognized the rhythm of the footsteps behind me immediately. It was a familiar sound, one that I had heard countless times before. My heart sank as I realized that there was only one person in the world who could move with such purpose and determination.

A cold shiver ran down my spine as I remembered the warning that had been delivered to me just moments ago. It was a simple message, delivered in a calm and measured voice: "You can't run away from me."

I knew that I was in trouble. This person had a way of always finding me, no matter where I went or how hard I tried to hide. It was as if they had some kind of sixth sense that allowed them to track me down no matter what.
