Chapter 6

Ryeleigh

Sitting in the car with Raven heading back in her car, I replay the exchange I had with Cormac. I have dreamed of Cormac holding me since I was 13 and saw him as more than a stinky boy. He went through his change today too; he is a true Berserker, an alpha bear. During the ceremony, after I saw the Amory dead, he just held me as I sobbed into him. I can still hear the screams of others, but in his arms, I felt at home and calm in the middle of a storm. I worried if I let him go, I would crumble.

The car ride is miserable, made easier with Raven, but she is more quiet than usual. I think she knew something was wrong with me. I feel like I am on sensory overload, with my eyes randomly adjusting, my sense of smell so acute I can smell the aftershave we sprayed in Raven’s car two years ago and still have a very faint trace.
