CHAPTER EIGHTY-SIX - TWO OPPOSING VIEWS

Cassy POV

While I listened to Caleb, I realized all this time, we had a contrasting take on what had transpired within our marriage.

His version was quite different from how I perceived it.

“That is not how I remembered it, Caleb. You were devastated when Amanda turned you down.”

Caleb shook his head.

He seemed lost in space while I waited for him to gather his thoughts. It was a long time before he composed himself.

Under my watchful gaze, he unconsciously picked up his water glass to sip from it.

When he placed the glass back on the table, he rested his hands on the table, our fingers touching. At one point, he let his index finger move and caressed the back side of my hand.

“I don’t know if this makes sense, but it was my guilt. It overrides my thinking process. It was not to excuse my behavior back then, but sometimes we were so set on doing something that when it backfired on us, or it got derailed, we felt out of balance.”

I nodded, prodding him to go on.
