17–Set the ball rolling

Emerson POV,

His words hang heavy in the air. I stare at his colossal back inside the black button-down shirt he wore, there is nothing I can say.

When I walked up to him in the living room, I was not able to look him straight in his eyes. My reasons to have a moment with him.

I have been caught and the threats emanating from his voice were unspoken, abundantly clear there will be consequences and they dare not be in my favour.

But I can't help it, I have to get out of here before he makes further arrangements to Las Vegas.

I blink then move my eyes forward slowly moving away from the wall to follow him.

He whirls around to face me and arches a questioning brow.

He lifts a shoulder in half shrug. "A test to determine your worth."

Once the word catches me, I'm chewing on my bottom lips like I'm trying to blink back a potential cringe. He glances at me and sees me looking away.

"You stupid fuck face, I owe you my life that is enough," I mutter between gritted teeth, almost a whisper
