4. Legacy Ring

Shello suddenly remembered that she had not yet given an answer to Satya. So Shello nodded. "Yes, I will marry you," answered Shello.

Satya immediately put the beautiful ring on Shello's ring finger, then kissed Shello's hand. Ah, Shello couldn't believe she was getting married. And this fast. With Satya, her lover. Wasn't that every girl's dream? Was this happiness enough?

Yes, this should be the happiest day for her. Shello knew that. But, for some reason, something stuck in her heart. Of course, she wanted to get married. But why didn't it feel as fun as she imagined? Or... it's just that her expectations were too high?

However, how high would she want to be? Satya took Shello to a luxury villa that has the perfect spot to watch the sunset. Just as the sun was setting, Satya got down on one knee and proposed to Shello accompanied by music played by the saxophone player Satya had hired. Proposed to her with a diamond ring that Shello knew cost hundreds of millions rupiah.

What else did Shello wish for? This was already more beautiful than fantasy. And this was real.

"So, we're getting married," Shello said after Satya let go of her and stood up.

Satya held both of Shello's hands. "You are mine now," he said.

Shello chuckled. "But, you are not completely mine yet," said Shello making Satya frown. "You tie me with this ring. I haven't tied you up with anything."

"We'll exchange the rings as soon as we get back and speak to your father," said Satya.

Shello wrinkled her nose. "Too long. I need a knot while we are waiting to show people that you belong to someone," said Shello, reaching under the collar of her dress.

Satya laughed. "Okay, once we get back, we'll look for the ri...." And Satya's words were cut off when he saw Shello removing the necklace with the ring pendant from her neck.

"Ring," said Shello, completing Satya's words. "This is my family's ring. Usually passed down to the crown grandchild. It has a special power, they said. Luck. And luckily, it's a man woman's ring."

Shello removed the ring pendant from the chain and showed it to Satya. The ring is thick and has a silver base, gold-coloured engraving with a black combination sculpted around the ring.

If looked closely, the engraving established the words 'Emeraldy'. No gems but prominent carvings make the ring look luxurious and beautiful.

"This is for the husband or wife of the main heir to the Emeraldy family, and at this time, it means for my partner, which is you," said Shello.

"Whoa, do I deserve this?" asked Satya.

"What do you mean? Of course, you deserve it."

"But, we are not married yet, Shell," said Satya doubtfully. "Is it okay?"

"Not yet. But, will, right? It doesn't matter if it is given now or later. The important thing is, you will be my husband, and later this ring will also be yours. As a sign that you are part of my family," said Shello.

From her words and expressions, Satya knew she didn't want to be debated. So, Satya obeyed when Shello held Satya's hand, intending to put the ring on Satya's ring finger until Satya's hand suddenly trembled.

"What is it, Satya?" asked Shello anxiously.

"I'm just worried this legacy ring will be defective later. So, be careful, okay," joked Satya.

Shello pinched Satya's hand. "It's annoying, really," she grumbled, making Satya chuckle. "Seriously. Don't joke anymore. The thing is, the ring actually will fall if you keep playing around with it," said Shello, to which Satya finally agreed. Shello immediately put the ring on Satya's ring finger, at least until something stopped her.

Unlucky. The ring didn't fit. It could only fit up to the middle of Satya's ring finger. And Satya could see it too. He even tried to help Shello fit the ring to the base of his ring finger but still couldn't.

Meanwhile, Shello was stunned. Her gaze never left the ring. Instantly, a memory entered her mind. She just awoke when Satya touched her shoulder.

Shello looked at Satya, who seemed to wonder. "Sorry, I suddenly remember my mother's stupid talk," she said. "It was stupid, actually. However, my mother's family has always believed that if this ring fits on the ring finger of one of our partners, it means that our partner and we are soul mates. That way, the family has no doubts that our partner deserves to continue the Emeraldy Group. It's like... this ring is a sign for the right person."

Shello was silent for a moment before chuckling lightly. She felt stupid. "I never wanted to believe it ever since I heard that.

"And now?" asked Satya.

Shello was silent again. For a few seconds, she looked deeply into Satya's eyes.
