Orphanage Sweethearts

I flopped on the bed,tired and hurt.I felt like a thing,a thing they'd used to pass time away till they got their biological child.

Thank goodness I hadn't carried all my luggage along.It would have been more disgraceful carrying them back.

I sniffed as I wiped my tears.That reminded me,I need to speak to Lilian,see if she could give me just another month.I prayed I'll be able to knock off something bigger.

I walked up to her room,she was in the shower.The bag and gown she'd worn last night lay on the bed.

I sat on the bed,waiting for her to leave the shower but she was still there fifteen minutes later.

Then I felt something vibrate beside me,I thought it was my phone but I had left it in my room.

I raised the dress up and there I saw Lilian's phone but my mouth dropped wide open the moment I saw who it was that was calling.

I held the phone up.

Stephanie Collins was displayed on the screen.I tried to calm myself that it could be another Stephanie Collins but there was only one way to find out.

I picked the call.

She spoke first.

"Is it done?" I heard her say

Before I could make sense of anything,Lilian had grabbed the phone out of my grip.

I turned.

"What the hell are you doing with my phone?!" she yelled

I was suddenly wondering how Lilian got Stephanie's number.

"Why do you have Stephanie's number?" I asked

"That is none of your business" she replied "What are you doing here anyway"

I decided to forget about that.It could be coincidence.Even if I am just meeting Stephanie for the first time it doesn't mean Lilian is too.

"I came to...to ask for a favor"

She glared at me

"If you're here to ask for another month, I'm sorry.You have to leave now,Diana!"

"I will pay the bills if that's what you're concerned about." I tried to convince her but she blatantly ignored me.

I didn't mean to say this but I had to.

"Why are you sending me away all of a sudden?"

"I have given you enough time,Diana.I also have my life to live." she retorted

"This has to do with Stephanie Collins right?" I said and she frowned "You must have met with her if not explain what her number is doing on your phone and why she's asking if it's done! You were acting so weird yesterday because you knew about the disgusting deal all along!"

"Well,now that you know you might as well know that I think you're the most foolish person to reject the famous and mighty CEO of Collins group!" she smirked "You should have agreed to the deal and use your sense! Make him fall in love with you.That's easy! You look a lot like his wife."

As for Lilian nothing is stopping her from getting that five million dollars.

"What has she promised you?" I asked as I stepped closer.

She ignored me and grabbed my arm down to the living room.She went up to my room to pack down my already arranged bags.

She opened the door and threw them out and then she came for me.She pushed me out the door.

"This world is not meant for you,Diana!"

I sat outside on the patio thinking of where to go.I cannot cry now.Lilian isn't worth crying for.

No matter how much I comforted myself,the pain was still there.Oh,how I need Jake!

"What are you doing out here in the cold?"

Despite the pain, my heart fluttered with joy the moment I heard that voice.I looked up and there he was,smiling at me.

His eyes stared at me up and down.I didn't know when my legs moved and when my body flunged herself on him and my hands around his neck.

"It's okay to cry" he whispered and all the pain I was feeling disappeared for a while.

I stared at him and reached to his sandy brown hair.I scattered the way I'd always done back then.

"I missed you." I said

He grinned "I could feel it, that's why I'm here." he looked around "Where's Lilian and why are your bags outside?"

I was about to reply when my stomach grumbled.Jake smiled.

"As always." he teased "Looks like someone is hungry."

I blinked my eyes at him

"Alright,c'mon let's go have something"

I didn't object.He helped me carry my bags to a nearby restaurant and he ordered enough food.All for me.I ogled at the delicious food as I dipped my teeth into the tasty hamburger.

"What's the occasion?" I asked because of the amount of food he ordered.

"You." he said

"Me?" I said amidst food in my mouth,who knows when I'd see something this tasty again

"You're still beautiful,Diana"

I smiled "Don't flatter me now.Jamie will get jealous"

"Oh Jamie." he said "She has nothing to be insecure about.I'm hers forever"

Jake and Jamie are in a relationship.They'd soon get married.

"You know nothing about women,Jake" I said as I grabbed the pizza on his plate,I have finished the two hamburgers.

I grinned at him so he wouldn't complain.

"I've lived most of my life around beautiful women" he replied

I knew he was talking about the orphanage.

"But none loves you like Jamie" I said and realized that the pizza has finished.

"Seriously,Diana!" he laughed as he called the waiter for five more pizzas.I wasn't even being considerate of the money he'd spend for all these food and the exquisite wine he'd ordered specially.

We continued our conversation

"I know Jamie loves me and that's why I'm with her.I hate to see women cry or be the reason their heart got broken." he replied

I continued eating and gazed at him

"Are you saying you don't love her?"

He paused for a while and reached out for my hands.

"You know I'll never love someone else the way I love you and I know you don't feel the same way for me and it's totally okay."

I stopped eating.This was getting serious

"I am satisfied with our friendship and I hate to spoil it." he said.

"Jake" I began

"No..don't say anything Diana." he stopped me "I know that something is bothering you so you might as well forget what I said and tell me all about it"

I hesitated.How can I tell him about the deal with that bitch? I can't.He has a family and few months later he'll be married to Jamie.

I know how it feels like for the person you love not to return your feelings back.It's hurts.

I can only imagine the pain Jamie must be feeling.

"Lilian is going on a vacation so uhm.." I was preparing another lie,God help me "..I had to leave"

His knotted his full brows

"Leave? Why? She said she can't leave the house to you?"

I shook my head "No,Jake.I mean..you know"

I'm not good at lies at all because I'm not used to telling them.

"Her brother or someone from family might want to come stay and my presence might bother them"

He nodded

"So when's Lilian gonna be back?"

I sighed in my heart,he fell for the lie

"She's gonna take a really long time"

"Well that's no problem.You can stay with me for the meantime" he said

I instantly stood up on my feet "No no no Jake,really I appreciate your kind gesture but it's not necessary."

He stood "What are you saying,Diana?"

How would I explain this.How would Jamie and his family react to seeing Jake bring home a woman.

"Jake I'm saying you have problems of your own and you can't keep trying to be there for me."

"I have always been there for you and I always will!" he raised his voice a bit and I could see he was getting annoyed with me.

I packed my bags.There was no use arguing.He wouldn't understand!

I ran out of the restaurant.He caught up with me and turned me around.

"Is this about Jamie?"

I couldn't answer

"Forget it Diana." he said "There is nothing anyone not even you will say that would change the way I feel about you."

"Jamie can have me but she can never have my heart." he said
