SIXTY ONE – FEAR

"Can you please go a bit faster?"

The driver responds by stepping on the accelerator, propelling the already speeding car forward.

I grip the leather seats with shaky fingers, trying to shrug off the feeling of dread that tightens my stomach.

"Did he tell you anything?" I ask the stone faced guard for the hundredth time.

He shakes his head.

"I do not believe there is anything to be particularly worried about, Miss. Mr. Lachlan is fine."

" You didn't hear him." I retort sharply. " He didn't sound okay."

The guard lifts one brow at me and I lower my eyes.

"Sorry." I whisper, turning to the windows.

The beautiful Hawaiian city flies by in a blur. I do not notice it…I do not notice anything other than the tuneless thumping of my heart against my chest. The sun is burning in it's full glory, but I feel strangely cold.

I tell myself that I'm just worried about Mason like a fellow human being would, but my subconscious lets out a loud, mocking 'ha! "
