Lorenzo's POV The days went by in a blur with Drago not saying a word, if he knew about Helena's disappearance, he didn't say a word about it, and although I knew that I wasn't supposed to feel unsettled, I just couldn't. I had a lot on my plate, from Daphne telling me she wasn't ready for marriage yet, to coping with Jack's disappearance. It was something that I had finally agreed upon that I had to live with. There had been no report about his whereabouts, I wasn't going to lie, a part of me was excited because there was a prospect that he wasn't dead yet while the other part of me was worried about what exactly might have happened. As a last demand, I had changed my team, from my driver to anyone who would guide my family leaving just Tessa behind. She was going to stay by Daphne, and they had been coming along recently just fine. I tried to push away the slush of doubt that had settled in the pit of my stomach, but it was there, so stubborn that I just had to do it. Placing
Daphne's POV The slushing of the water came to an abrupt stop as I turned off the faucet, splashing the running water on my face as footsteps halted outside the door before throwing on a bathrobe. “ Lorenzo” a gasp snaked out of my mouth when he leaned forward, his head against my shoulder as he sniffed in and the heavy scent of alcohol wafted into my nostrils. “You have been drinking?” My words came out in a statement rather than a question with him standing upright. He sank into the couch. “I know you don't like me drinking, but I needed to clear my head” his eyes were in slit as he gazed upon me so tenderly that my heart twitched. He looked so devastatingly cute, and I couldn't bring myself to scold him. “Did something happen?” I pushed. Everything had been fine when he left, but now he looked as if he had been ridden over by a truck, wasted and sad. “The designer will be coming in an hour for your dresses. Mine and Alexis are ready, tomorrow you will be introduc
Daphne's POV I knew that I had to get used to the fact that Jaden was always going to show up at my face, but this was becoming unbearable, his very existence disgusted me, making me want to puke. “ What are you talking about?” He squinted his eyes, inching closer when a guard stepped in front of him. “ You should leave” his icy tone threw Jaden off guard who peered at me so hard with his fist clenched and teeth gritted. “The don wouldn't want you in here, and you know that.” Jaden raised a hand up, with a piercing gaze he stepped away. “ Is everything okay?” Lorenzo questioned when I had a hand on my chest, stuffing in a smile, I bobbed at him when his face was probing.Hooking his arms around mine, he gestured. “ Let's go, Helena will be out any time soon”Our feet moved with us in silence, not saying a word. Everything felt numb at a point but when the wind rustled against my hair revealing Trisha to me something burnt in me. She quickly hid herself, tucking in the crowd wh
Lorenzo's POVThe echoes of my heart against its rib cage told me that it was a figment of my imagination, that I hadn't heard correctly at first what she had said but the test strips, her red eyes and her lips curved downward gave me a different answer. With voice shaking and eyes stiffened, I asked.“ You are pregnant?” I repeated what she had said. The tiny bubbles around us burst into ripples of joy as I scooped her in my arms. The test strips long forgotten and her beautiful eyes in circles as she tries to shove me away. “ Get off me, drop me down. I don't want this. I am not ready, I don't….” “ Shush” I placed a finger over her lips, shutting up the noisy voice that might be playing in her head. “ I will be with you through all of its phases, so you don't have to worry” I assured her, hoping that those fine lines that drew all over her face would straighten, but instead they deepened. She shook her head, her mind must be running in a daze, but I was here to let her know th
Daphne's POV Lorenzo leaving right away wasn't something that had dawned on me, I mean, it was barely an hour we left Helena's marriage, and we were supposed to be together, not him leaving for work. As though on cue, Irene waved me goodbye before sliding into a tinted black Maybach that got my brows crested, but I would inquire at another time about that. “ What do you mean work?” I questioned, a scoff following as my hands held his sleeves.“ Today is Helena's marriage and I mean, we got married not too long ago, and we should be home back with the doctor and not you working” I explained when his hands stroked my face. “ You know that I will do whatever it is just to make sure that I stay in with you, but this is time-critical and it requires my attention”I wanted to ask how urgent it was, and what it entails, but his eyes told me not to, gulping down the next train of words that had threatened to pour out, I bobbed my head taking footsteps back. “ I will leave, and wait for
Lorenzo's POV “ You can't,” I whispered. What exactly was she thinking? Was she really going to leave me? A break? Wasn't that what people say when they don't want you anymore? Was Daphne tired of me already? I didn't know what to do. A life without her was finally sipping in, and it wasn't pretty. Not one bit. “Lorenzo. I can't do this anymore. I live in threat, my life is always at the edge, so please let me go. I just need to take a breath outside here and think. I am not leaving you”. Not leaving me? I found myself bursting into spirals of laughter at her words. She was practically tossing me to the wind. She was one beautiful woman, not minding the stretch marks on her butt nor her boobs which weren't perky, she had heads turning to take a look at her and men ogling at her and I didn't want to let her go. “I can't,” I shook my head. I was ready to plead with her. “You can't leave me” my heart thumped as I tried to make her see reason when a whoosh passed me and our feet
Daphne's POV “ So are you going to tell me what exactly you have been hiding from me?” I leaned against the door, throwing the question at Irene who stood, transfixed to the spot. Her eyes wavering as she tried not to stare at me. “ Daphne, I was going to tell you, but I was waiting for the right time to tell you about it”I bit in a chuckle. “ Isn't this the right time?” I demanded to know when she didn't give me a word. Her eyes were still averted from mine, which made me wonder how much shit she was in. “ Fine” I sat on the couch close by. “ Just start from wherever you think is perfect for me to know. I am never going to judge you, you know” I assured her. How exactly am I going to judge her? We have all done shady things….“ He is someone's husband,'' Okay, I guess my shady and hers were two different kinds. “ That means you are a mistress?” When exactly did she get into this that I didn't have an idea about? This was stupid already. “Just until he gets divorced. He is unha
Lorenzo's POV My heart sledged against its rib cage as I slinked down the air stairs getting into the car waiting by the side. All the news article said the same thing, that the car had sunk but a tiny bit of me told me that wasn't true. That it had to be false, that maybe somewhere, somehow I could get her out. That she was fine and okay, just for me, the kids and the baby in her womb. My feet scampered out when the car came to a screeching stop just beside the water, divers lurked around, torches in hands, the screams and shouts made my hand flaccid. The ring was long forgotten as I tried to search for his owner, the only one who had made my life bright but was now gone and would make my life a hell if I didn't find her. My feet quickened, against the water as I tried to jump in when a man, short and crappy stood in front of me. “You can't go in, the men are there, and we cannot be certain about what is going to happen to you if you go in there” he explained. I flung him to t
