“I met my husband Demetri when I was about eighteen. In the time I’d grown up in, I’d been a woman for about two years. It was customary for fathers to pick their daughter’s husbands. Well, like most young women of that era, I didn’t object or refuse when my father told me that I was to marry Gordon Peterson. He was the son of a wealthy banker. Even though I knew Gordon was a terribly spoiled brat, and he was quite a little snot,” she said, chuckling. “Anyway, I held my contentment in. It was disrespectful to object to your father’s wishes. A few weeks went by, and I was completely miserable. I’d always loved the moonlight, so I went for a walk one night. I’d made it to the end of the street, and I saw him just under the street lantern. It was the first time I’d ever laid eyes on Demetri.”
