Preparation for the bonfire

While Amber was looking at her mother, Jackson sent a sign to Murphy and he nodded before his hand went to his back. Realizing that something was missing, he raised his eyes to see John holding the gun which was supposed to be with him.

“Don’t.act.stupid,” John said the words one by one and pointed the gun at Jackson.

“What do you think you are doing?” Murphy asked.

“Exactly what you intend to do not until you realize the gun is not in your hands. Now, if you will please, keep your mouth shut,” John said and faced Jackson.

Jackson scoffed and said, “Think you can threaten me with that?”

The corner of John’s lips pulled up and he said, “Let’s see,” and he fired the blank.

Amber, who saw what was going on, felt her heart jump at the sound of the gunshot and when she saw that no one got shot, she looked at John.

Was he trying to protect her? Can she trust him not to harm her or was he just putting up an act to make her believe him? Those were the thoughts running on Amber’s mind.
