Confessing her deeds

Amber inhaled and fought back the tears that threaten to release from her eyes. She assured herself that everything was going to be fine and if it isn’t, then she didn’t care anymore. After all, her life hasn’t been any good.

“Your mother didn’t report you,” she heard Jackson speak. “At least, not the way you think.” He paused and then continued, “Your mother made that call because she was worried about you. She thought you were being threatened and wanted to make sure you are safe.”

Amber didn’t feel moved and instead, she only stared at him.

“Well I am safe, all thanks to me,” she said and somehow, it was true. She felt she has been the one protecting herself without anyone’s help and it made her feel in control.

“In that case,” she moved her eyes to look at who just spoke and saw that it was the one Jackson referred to as John, “I think we should start leaving and attend to other cases,” John said and walked to the side, towards the door.

All he wanted was for them to leave and let
