It turned out that Lejend’s nicely bite sized cut fruit was for Skye.
The beta was treating the omega like he would one of his sick animals and it was interesting seeing the normally standoffish man fret over a person rather than an animal.
Linus was given a share of the fruit as well, much to his amusement, but the beta seemed less concerned with his health.
Interestingly, everyone seemed to be keeping an eye on the omega and it was obvious that he had wormed his way into each of their hearts.
Trace slipped away with Skye’s sheepskin after he had finished sleeping, only to return with it freshly clean and combed. He hung it out to dry on a nearby tree before wordlessly continuing about his day.
Urkane brewed Skye tea with some fragrant wild roses that grew nearby while Dyllen scolded him every time he tried to help with the chores.
Everyone seemed to be constantly offering him food, al
Two and a half days of watching and waiting had come to an end. They had spent hours discussing the plan and the layout of the guard patrols around the manor. Damning evidence had been found against Chisakiin the form of a body of a young woman being disposed of in the forest surrounding the manor. Worse still, it had been left out for the wild animals instead of properly buried. The woman had been in bad shape and the tell-tale whip marks across her exposed flesh told a grim tale. Britehad been seeing red since he found out and Linusand Urkanehad to physically hold him down at one point lest he takes off in search of Chisaki’s head on his own. Now here they were, a short walk from the manor and all armoured up. Well, as armoured as they could be for a stealth mission. It was one of the risks of their plan-plate and chain mail were noisy and would alert the guards of their presence before they’ve ha
Skyejumped up from where he stood brushing his horse, Moya, when he heard footsteps crashing through the undergrowth.Yashappeared from the thick forest not long after with a group of betas that looked worse for wear.Their faces were gaunt with lack of food and their skin waxy due to poor nutrition. He rushed forward to press his hands against the closest one’s cheeks and activated his healing to assess the damage. His suspicions about the food was correct and as he moved from person to person, he noted that other than being painfully thin, there was not much he could do for them. They had hired a wagon from the farmer whose land they had been staying on and he made sure everyone was as comfortable as they could be while Yashand Urkane pried information from them. The omega handed out some spare blankets they had acquired just in case and rummaged around for something small for them to eat to soothe the
“Come on, Cherub. Wake up.”Skyegrumbled, trying to push away the hand that roughly shook him from his slumber.Exhaustion weighed on him andhecouldn’t remember ever being so tired before. He wanted to snarl at the person trying to wake him up even as he wanted to cry at the sheer overwhelming tiredness that tried to claw him back into peaceful oblivion.Groaning, he opened his eyes as the person wouldn’t leave him alone.Dyllen’s grumpy mug stared down at him and he groaned even louder before trying to roll over.“Oh, no you don’t,” Dyllensaid as he bodily dragged him into a sitting position heedless of his protests. “You need to eat and drink before you go back to sleep.”A cup was held to his lips, and that was when he realizedjust how thirsty he was. Greedily,he drank down the sweet water, his awareness coming back.He gla
Consciousness was not a pleasant experience right then, Linusdecided. He groaned at the thumping headache then coughed as his dry throat protested. The convulsing of his muscles with the cough sent searing pain up his side and he gasped, eyes flying open.A large hand forced him still as a cool metal cup was held to his lips and he drank down the water greedily, splashing much of it down his chin heedlessly.“Welcome back, Boss,” a deep voice greeted him, and he looked up to find a familiar alpha face looking down at him.“Dyllen,” he rasped out.Traceappeared in his vision a moment later with more water and he drank until he couldn’t drink anymore. As his mind cleared, he remembered what had happened.A stab in the abdomen certainly explained the pain although it was duller than he would have expected. He also didn’t feel the haziness of fever or the memory loss that could
It took nearly a month for the Silvermist Companyto reassemble in Athelney. Linuswas fully healed with another scar to add to his collection, all the freed slaves had found their homes, and Erihad been returned to her mate. Britehad accepted the contract coin but declined any further work as they waited to regroup. It was a noisy morning in the inn when they finally joined up again, many of the band pleased to see their leader well. “Boss!” Britecalled as everyone settled down around two round tables pushed together. “Fucking hell, have you seriously been keeping that much gold the entire time?! I nearly choked when I heard how much the contract was worth, then I took the liberty of going through a few of the bags on the packhorses, figured you wouldn’t mind. If you had told me we had that much coin lying around, I would have said we could follow your dream to set up our own base ages ago.” “I
Summary Eician was running. Crossing kingdoms, and arriving at his target place, he decided to move on from it; but the terrors he had experienced was not easy to forget. Alphas scares the heck out of him but there seems to be more to one particularly crabby alpha than he lets on. ***** Dyllen was running. After travelling the world with people who wield swords, he found himself now stuck in one place; still being hunted by memories of a broken heart. Omegas had always been trouble but there seems to be one particularly timid omega that’s breaking down his walls. ***** Two different people, escaping from a painful past. Both of them never thought that they would find something in a blossoming garrison- a family.
Dyllensighed as he followed his long-time friend and leader through their budding village. In the short span of a few months, the rolling field had turned into a prosperous, albeit small, community. Only a few buildings were complete so far: barracks, mess hall, stables, and a few houses. Linus had been concerned about having the first house built for himself, never one to put himself above the others, but Dyllenwas glad of it. As much as Skye had grown on him and they had reached something of a friendship, constantly seeing the two engaged in sappy moments of romance had been driving him crazy. Even the others in the band had been happy to get the lovesick couple away from them for a while and no one wanted to have to deal with Skye’s heat again. A hassle that could be easily avoided by having a little privacy in the form of their own home. The large wooden structure sat proudly in the middle of t
Buffwas ahuge horse, getting on in years much as Dyllenwas, and they had travelled together for a long time now.A towering black beast of an animal, he was the band’s only trained warhorse although Dyllenhad purchased him for a hefty sum years before even meeting Linusfor the first time.Buff was a solid companion and well worth his weight in gold for what he had carried Dyllenthrough over their travels together. He reached out to stroke Buff’s neck as the horse nuzzled into his shoulder in greeting. The alpha had yet to let anyone else saddle his horse for him, even when he was on death’s door, and he wasn’t about to start now. From the corner of his eye, he could see Lejendrushing around to get two horses attached to their basic wooden wagons while Linusand Britesaddled up their own mares.“I bet you’re keen to stretch your legs on a proper wa
