Chapter 3

"Good morning Ms." The guard greeted Maya as she walked into the living room.

Her head was still pounding from the stunt she pulled last night. She looked around and realized she wasn't at the same villa anymore. The events from last night replayed in her head, and she planned on doing much worse today.

"Where the hell am I, Hunter?" She asked her bodyguard.

She didn't care much about the other guards. She only cared about Hunter; only because he treated her like an actual person, while the others treated her like an object that needed protecting.

"Mr King had us move you to a new villa, Ms. He asked that you behave yourself."

Maya rolled her eyes and laughed. She didn't fear Jason as everyone else did. The only reason she is still with him is so her little brother can get his treatment.

"Oh yea? Well, what's going to happen if I refuse to behave?" Maya asked in a cocky tone.

She folded her arms and stared at Hunter with her eyes narrowed as if she was warning him not to upset her.

"You'll just have to ask him yourself. He is stopping by after work to have a word with you."

Maya had a sly smile, like she was planning something.

"Oh, that's wonderful. We have so much to catch up on."

Maya sat down next to Hunter and waited for her breakfast. Hunter seemed worried about what Maya had planned. He didn't want her trying anything while Jason was here. He had been working for Jason for nearly six-years, so he knew how angry Jason could get.

"I understand you're upset, but please don't aggravate Mr King." Hunter calmly asked.

Maya munched on some toast and smiled at him.

"Why would I possibly do that?" Maya tilted her head.

Hunted covered his face with his hands and let out a heavy sigh. He had never been this stressed out to see Jason. He was more scared of Maya than Jason. He knew exactly how arrogant she could get, and he knew she would test Jason's patience today.

"Calm your tits, Hunter. I'm just messing with you. I won't do anything." Maya laughed and punched his shoulder.

She treated him like he was her best friend. She didn't have any friends before she met Jason, so Hunter was pretty much her only friend. Well, him and the housemaids.

Maya spends the day lying on the floor in her little library. Maya thought about all the freedom she had before she was bombarded with the news of her arranged marriage. She used to be happy. Maya hadn't seen her little brother in four years. All she knew was that he was getting better. Though Maya hated Jason, she was still grateful that he was helping out with her little brother.

"Where is she?" Maya heard a husky voice coming from the living room.

She quickly got off the floor and grabbed a random book off the shelf before running to the chair. The door opened and in front of her was her arrogant yet gorgeous husband. Maya lowered the book and looked directly into his eyes. It seemed as though she was challenging him.

"What exactly is your problem?! Do you have any idea how much I've spent because of your reckless behavior?" Jason slammed the door behind him.

Maya didn't even flinch. She continued staring at him with cold eyes. He stepped closer to her. Now Maya started to panic. She wasn't sure if he would hurt her, but she had a bad feeling he would.

"Answer me, damn it!" He barked.

This time Maya flinched. She didn't understand why her parents would just give her away like that. Her mother had told her that the gentleman she would be married to was a delightful fella. There was nothing delightful about Jason King. He was a hard-headed and selfish man.

"I'm sick of being cooped up here, Jason. I'm your wife for crying out loud. You need to start treating me like one." Maya finally let out.

"You are not my wife. I'm just doing my mother a favor by marrying her best friend's daughter to get them out of debt. Without me, you guys would have been out on the streets, and your brother-"

"Don't you dare say another word?"

Maya stared at Jason with tears in her eyes. It felt like a kick to the gut. Jason realized what he said and almost apologized, but he just adjusted his tie and stepped closer to her.

"Listen to me carefully, we are having lunch with our parents this weekend, and I would like things to run smoothly. I don't want you to create a scene. Also, my parents want me to make our marriage public so once they bring it up I want you to refuse. She won't listen to me, but surely she would listen to you. Do you understand?"

Maya remained silent.

Jason grabbed her face between his thumb and index finger and aggressively turned her face towards him.

"I asked you a question, Maya. Do you understand?"

Maya nodded as tears ran down her cheeks.

"I understand."

Jason let go of Maya and stepped back. The little bit of guilt he felt quickly faded away. Maya on the other hand was completely shattered by how low Jason was willing to go to break her.

"You better look presentable on Saturday," Jason said.

It sounded more like a warning to Maya. All she did was nod before he walked out and left her in the library.

She heard his car drive off but remained in the library for a few more hours.
