Chapter 05: His Crime

Flynn didn't know if his eyes really turned bloodshot or she's just imagining things but,

He took the old book with his left hand and held her wrists by the other.

"Where did you get this?"

Was he seriously angry? So suddenly? His grip on her hand tightens as she stays silent and scans him.

"What's your problem?" She asks, starting to get irritated with Jin’s actions.

"I asked you a question so you have to answer me--"

Flynn got enough of his sudden drama and pushed him away from her. Her wrists got red and she could feel it got hot with the stern grip from the man.

"No man's gonna tell me what to do."

She snatches the book on his hand.

"Leave my house. Now."

Jin snaps to reality and immediately apologises.

"Flynn, I'm sorry--"

"If sorries could conquer the law, it would be illegal." She chuckles bitterly.

"So don't be sorry and just leave before I do something we both don't want to happen."

Jin did not say anything anymore since he knew he already messed up. He just left the apartment and knocked at his sister's place.

"Seolla." Is what he says when an identical pair of brown eyes met him.

"Jinan. You finally visit me."

“Fucking asshole.” Flynn says, getting her towel and walking towards her bathroom. “I knew it. He’s really a lunatic.”

“I told you I don’t kill people so shut it.” Flynn says as she tries to walk away from her new found customer.

“I will pay you so what’s the problem? You only want the money, right?” The old man says.

“Death is not some kind of punishment that humans could decide. So I’m leaving.”

Right. She will never be like her father. Death should come by naturally and not decided by anyone. Killing someone just because you don’t like them is just inhuman and cruel.

“Why you---” The old man’s men blocked her way from getting out of the old and dusty abandoned building. “I’m not letting you out until I get what I want you to do.”

“Aish. You just don’t listen don’t you?”

“You sell anything. You ruin people’s lives. You destroy families so how dare you act like you have any dignity inside that small body of yours?” The old man laughs.

“I told you I don’t kill people! Let me out before you become the first one!” Flynn screams. She’s getting really irritated and the suffocating situation does not help.

The old man walks towards her and slaps her.

“Why are you shout---”

“How dare you hurt a little lady like that? Will you pay if you ruin her face?”

Flynn stares at the tall man as she wipes the blood on the corner of her face.

“Hee Sun? Why are you here?” She asks.

Hee Sun just pulls her on his back and replies,

“Just go over there and wait. I’ll talk to you after I’m done with this.” He says and winks at her.

“You rat, you recommend her to me and then--”

Hee Sun smirks at the man as he shows him his identity card.

“I’m Hee Sun Park, from the city police. She’s just a decoy. I’m the real deal so why don’t you slap me like you did to her?”

“They are a lot aren’t they?”

Hee Sun asks as Flynn drives his car. She’s not talking.

“Hey. Why aren’t you talking?”

“Did you just use me as bait to arrest those gangsters?” She asks angrily to him as she focuses on driving.

“Well, cops do that all the time don’t the---”

“He fucking slapped me! I wanted to kill him so badly when he did that! If I had lost my patience with what you just plotted I could have been the one on cuffs and not them!” She shouts. It’s obvious that she’s really mad. She’s almost screaming.

“I’m sorry, okay? I--” and Hee Sun loses consciousness.

“Oi, hey! What happened to..” she sees his head hung low and it’s bleeding “fuck did you just fainted?”

“You cannot wait forever and you cannot lie to her with your real identity either.” Seolla says as she and her brother have a cup of tea.

“She’ll hate me more if she knew who I am.” Jin replies.

“She’ll hate you most if she knew you’re lying to her so stop it and face the struggles of being the Moon Guardian.” Seolla chuckles at him. “You used to command the war force of our town before and you’re getting scared of your woman?”

“Seolla, stop it.” Jin warns. “You still do this tea recipe, too?” He asks.

“Mmm, yep. Never had tasted any better than our family recipe.” She shrugs.

“But does Flynn usually come home this late? I need to talk to her today.” Jin asks, looking at Seolla’s fancy clock.

“What are you talking about? It’s only 7:30 PM.”

Hee Sun wakes up to the smell of cocoa beans lingering on his condo unit. Is someone cooking? He tries to stand up and is welcomed by the terrible headache that he guessed was from the gang fight earlier. His forehead is wrapped in bandages and his wounds are properly dressed and cleaned.

Is Flynn in here? She’s the only person he can remember before he fainted.

“You make chocolates?”

“So I guess demons do faint?” It’s Flynn. She’s taking some chocolates from the ice cube molds and placing them on a plate. “Eat some chocolates, maybe it will reduce your headache and make you smarter so that you don’t fight with a gang by yourself.”

“Wait, are you mad because you’re actually worried about me?” Hee Sun laughs.

Flynn laughs, too and asks back. “Do you even know why I go to Dr. Chiong?”

“Tell me then.” Hee Sun dares.

“I’m a sociopath. Worry? I don’t even know how to feel that.” she smirks at him.

“Then why are you acting like that?”

“I hate seeing people die on my face. That’s all.”

“Why are you still here?” Flynn asks.

Jin lifts his head up and smiles. Thank God she appeared already. He is almost drifting to sleep as he sits and waits by her apartment building door. It’s already 9 PM and she had gone out for a long time.

“Have you eaten dinner?” He asks.

“I asked you first, Mr. Kim.” She stares at him and notices three bottles of soju by his side. Did he drink?

“I don’t know why I’m here, too but you’re driving me crazy.” Jin says standing up, towering over her and walking closer. “I’ve missed you.”

“You literally saw me hours ago and--” She stops talking as he hugs her tightly. “What the hell is your problem Jinan Kim?”

“How dare you leave me alone for years?” He whispers. “I miss you, Lee. I swear I regret killing you.”

Her eyes widened as he said those unfamiliar words. Jin killed someone? How could he? It’s not possible, right?

"I love you, Lee. I can't kill you."

Lee? Why is everyone calling her Lee? Hee Sung called her that name before, too. Her eyes widen more as she realizes that her dreams about Jin could be true. Jinan Kim just admitted a murder. This beautiful man right in front of her just committed murder. He doesn’t deserve freedom.

“It’s bitter but it’s definitely my taste.” Hee Sun smiles to himself as he eats the chocolates Flynn made. “She’s some badass talented chocolatier isn’t she?”

*phone ringing*

His thoughts about the chocolates are disrupted with his phone ringing and his smile grows wider as he reads who is calling him in the middle of the night.

“Hey, Flynn. What’s up?”

“Someone I knew admitted to murder. You have to hurry and arrest him now.” Her voice is shaking. It’s quite obvious that she’s stressed about the matter she is talking about.

“And who could that murderer be?” He asks.

“His name is Jinan Kim. Lee. That ‘Lee’ girl you know. He said he regretted killing her.” She says. “I tied him up in my apartment. Come and get him.”

Hee Sun giggles.

“Flynn, you have to release him and let him go.” He says softly. “Police don’t act when there’s no evidence.”

“Are you stupid? He admitted to his own crime! What evidence do you still need?”

“Flynn, listen to me. Let him go or he can sue you for the crime of slight physical injuries.”

“Are you really a cop or you’re just-- Fine! Fuck you then!” She says and drops the call.

Hee Sun just stares at his phone and watches as it turns dim.

“Bingo.”
