Kendall’s POV

My heart soared with hope and excitement at Margaret’s words, but her next question sent a shiver of doubt down my spine. “Kendall, are you sure it’s truly your mother?” she asked gently, her eyes searching mine for any sign of uncertainty.

I hesitated for a moment, my mind racing as I struggled with the implications of her question. Was it possible that the woman in the drawing wasn’t really my mother after all? Had I allowed my desperation for answers to cloud my judgment?

But then Margaret continued, her voice soft and reassuring as she explained the strange behavior my mother had exhibited in the past.

“Your mother… she used to act strange,” Margaret said slowly, her brow furrowed in thought. “She would isolate herself and her child from others, rarely speaking to anyone. Even at the market, she would keep to herself, avoiding any interaction with the other villagers.”
