Thirty-one
Mila looked at Emma's face when Cole walked in and she understood that Emma did not want him there. It was obvious from her pale face and shaky hands, from the look in her eyes and the worry and nervousness written all over her face that he made her feel petrified. Mila gently squeezed Emma's hand to assure her that she was okay and nothing was going to happen. She was almost completely sure that Cole was the reason behind all of that, he was torturing Emma mentally and physically, but Mila could not do anything as Emma blocked them all out of her life. Mila had no proof for her thoughts.
"Should we go?" Mila asked the pale girl beside her. Mila did not want to leave, but she was making sure that Emma wanted her in the room.
"No... please, s-stay," Emma whispered to Mila in a very quiet voice that only Mila could hear. She felt threatened and needed any source of strength.

Ten days passed since Emma was forced to ruin her friendship with Mila, ten days passed since Emma felt like she had somebody she could turn to, ten days passed since Mila felt lost and confused. The first day was the day Emma snapped at Mila. She stayed in the hospital bed, crying silently. Little seven years old Emma was playing in front of her house, she was all alone. Her parents were at work and her babysitter was an eighteen-year-old girl who barely cared about her, she was busy with her boyfriend inside the house and did not care that a seven-year-old child was all alone outside the house. She gave her Twinkies to eat and let her play in the front yard of the house. Emma had her bicycle with her and some other toys. She had her tiny backpack with her that contained the Twinkies and a watch that was given to her by her babysitter. Emma was a smart child and she understood how watches work. The babysitter gave her one, so she would not ask about the time and told her not to ask for food till it was twelve.Emma's stomach growled in hunger, so she took her Twinkies out of her small backpack that she left on the grass. As she was about to eat, a ten-year-old boy appeared out of nowhere and snatched them from her small hands, making the cute little girl frown.

I looked at the box in my hand, it was small. What was in it? Who would send me a gift by delivery? I have never received a delivered gift before. Maybe my parents sent me something? "I'm good, I wanted to ask you something. Did you happen to send Mila a gift?" My breath caught in my throat and my heart started to beat fast. Cole was right beside me, he knew nothing about the gift. I needed to lie to get myself out of trouble. My weak body could not take any more beating. Mila was in her room getting ready, but this time, the three girls were helping her to look more beautiful than she already was. She had a leopard printed dress on. The top of the dress was heart-shaped with thin straps and it was tight while the bottom of the dress was a little wide. The dress was perfect on her body, embracing her little curves. The dress was her birthday gift from Leila while Julie bought her red heels to match with the dress and Hannah got her a necklace to go with her birthday outfit and she also got her mascara and lipstick."I'm totally in love with this royal treatment! Mila was happy when she returned home; however, her happiness started to fade away once she lay down on her bed. Her mind was bombarded with memories of her previous birthdays with Emma. She remembered how Emma would always wake her up with a birthday cake she baked herself for her best friend. Emma would wake her up with her loud singing and then she would make her blow the candles and give her her gift. At night, they would have a small party at either Mila's house or Emma's house with their friends then after the party was over, they would have a movie night while eating popcorn and candy floss. Mila missed all of that and for a moment, she wanted to pick up her phone and call Emma, but her ego held her back. There was no point in talking to her, and Emma might end up saying something hurtful, but Mila wanted to hear her voice. Emma waited in the lobby of the building for five minutes and once she saw Mila, she let out a sigh of relief. She handed her her phone silently and they both walked to the elevator. The two girls walked inside the apartment and suddenly, Mila was not at ease. She did not want to go inside, she did not want to spend the night there. She was only doing that for Emma, the girl who broke her into a million pieces, yet she could not understand why she was helping her.
