Chapter 40: Promise

"I'll try my best," she hesitated and said.

"I want you to promise!" he insisted.

She pursed her lips and remained silent because she couldn't give him that kind of promise.

His expression turned even colder. "Why aren't you speaking? Does that mean you'll let me lose you again?" Lose you! Lose you! Just the thought of not being able to find her in the future made his blood feel like it was freezing.

He was angry, and she could sense it. Perhaps now, all she needed to do was say something untrue to easily appease him, but...

"Vivi, is it necessary for me to tie you to my side to ensure I'll never lose you again?" he asked, his voice dark and cold.

Her heart trembled, and she took a deep breath. "If you really did that, I wouldn't forgive you."

His lips tightened into a straight line, and his eyes stared at her intensely, his face turning pale.

His appearance softened her heart in an instant. "I can't guarantee that my phone will always be charged," she hesitated to say.
