Chapter 41: Reluctance

Who could have imagined that this terrifying man would also have such a completely different side? Vivienne didn't dare to stay in the ward for too long and the nurse left after a few words. She placed the dinner on the small table and watched Asher eat.

Most of the time, he ate in silence, with precise and measured movements, like a well-calibrated machine. Unless Vivienne spoke, Asher rarely initiated a conversation during meals.

As Vivienne observed Asher, she suddenly felt bewildered. Right now, he appeared calm and harmless. If she simply treated him as a friend and stayed by his side, it wouldn't be entirely impossible. But what would she do when he turned sinister and cruel? How would she handle that? Should she truly become "his" as agreed upon? Or should she make an effort to persuade him and abandon the thought? Alternatively, should she escape from his side?

Various thoughts flashed through Vivienne's mind in an instant.
