CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Look! How very lively he is now!" John exclaimed, but his smile wiped off as soon as he met Tremont's cold glance.
After a long silence, he spoke again for Tremont's ears alone. "Son, she can't be as bad as you think..." He never got to finish his words when Tremont snapped. "I'm not paying you to speak for her!"Tremont's eyes shifted in Aurora's direction. This wasn't the first time the older man who was never interested in people's lives had tried to speak up for her. He wondered if John had also been deceived by her gentle features. John smiled slowly not seeming bothered by Tremont's sharp words. John knew Tremont well enough to know that for Ryan's sake, Tremont would do anything, even if that meant using Aurora, but there was also the fact that he had seen what Tremont did to his enemies, simply keeping them locked up in a room was the very least of it. John thoCHAPTER THIRTY-SIX~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Aurora had been walking in a dazed state after Tremont had ordered her to return to the room when she heard a noise.She rushed towards the direction of the sound but was brought up short by the horrific sight.It was Linnet!A cry of alarm left her mouth as she ran towards the woman who was lying in a pool of blood."Please wake up!" She tapped Linnet's chin then screamed in a louder voice."Help! Somebody! Help!"Linnet was so still in her arms that Aurora's heart pounded with fright.The blood was too much!Aurora was grateful when she heard footsteps hurrying down the staircase, she looked upward to see Georgina who wore a look of fright."Call 911! Hurry please!" Aurora yelled at the top of her lungs while holding an unconscious Linnet tightly.Georgina marched towards her in furious strides and shoved her so hard th
CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Aurora was shoved roughly into the cell, she desperately banged her hands furiously at the men in uniform. They ignored her pleas of protest and walked away after clicking the metal doors shut."Hey! Shut up! You are being noisy!" A sharp voice yelled and Aurora swiftly turned around, the cell was dark and she had been too distracted to realize there were several people within the small space as well. "You disturbed our sleep! Do you wish to live?" Another young woman called out rudely. Aurora trembled amidst the glares of animosity she got from the three girls in the cell. They all had one thing in common, which was in the way they appeared. Their skin was pale and dirty as though they hadn't seen the light of the sun for a very long time. Aurora could almost count the bones on the body of one of the girls who appeared to be the youngest. She wondered if she would one day turn out ex
CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Tremont pushed aside the documents, breathing out his frustration. It had been a week already, but he still found it difficult to concentrate on anything. It was her. Aurora, who kept haunting his mind. He could still remember the hopelessness in her eyes as she uttered those last words. ' You never listen to me simply because you already hated me, you think that I'm a very horrible person, I can't say if I'm a good person, but I've never had any bad intention towards you or your family!' She even troubled his dream, he found it hard to sleep at night, he should know better than to believe a gold-digger like her, but that didn't make him feel any better.He drank a sip of his tea only to spit out the soured taste, he was going to be sick. The doctors still weren't clear on his mother's condition, they had advised him to prepare himself for the worst. Even if his mother somehow manage
CHAPTER THIRTY NINE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Aurora was surprised when she saw the person waiting for her on the opposite side of the room. From the peripheral of her vision, Aurora saw the warder leaving. Her eyes never wavered from John. She had thought the likely person to visit her would be Georgina, at least to gloat about her victory if not anything else."How is Linnet doing? What about Ryan? has h...he been fine? Did he recover yet?" Aurora spoke weakly. She thought if she only had some minutes, she would at least try to get the answers to the questions that had been disturbing her mind from the very first day she had been imprisoned. John didn't respond for the next few seconds, and Aurora suddenly grew doubtful. Did something happen to Linnet and Ryan? Or maybe John thought she was guilty of what had happened and that was why he wasn't replying?"Do you also think that I was the person who attacked Linnet?" Instead of ans
CHAPTER FORTY~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Tremont stepped out of the doctor's office, his face schooled in a hard mask. It would only require a glance for the people around to tell that something was amiss. "Tremont, what's wrong? What did the doctor say, is she going to get better soon?" Georgina spoke softly, as opposed to the panic and resentment in her heart. She couldn't believe that the old witch had survived the fall! She thought that she had successfully gotten rid of her for good. For the past few days, she had lacked the ability to sleep or think about anything, she wondered if Linnet would miraculously get better and would expose the truth to Tremont. Tremont inhaled sharply, the doctor's words from a few minutes ago echoing in his mind. "Tremont, please speak to me, I'm getting worried." She urged. Tremont stared from her to John and then to Ryan. He decided to speak, concluding that his son would be too young to understand the s
CHAPTER FORTY ONE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Aurora clutched her stomach as she emptied bile into the lavatory, her stomach hurt, she couldn't count how many times she had vomited since the last hour. She always has had a weak stomach, it wasn't used to the water given to them in this place. She sighed as she splashed water over her face and rinsed her mouth. The detention center didn't provide a mirror but could guess that she looked horrible, she was leaner, her once long hair had been shortened as per the rules. "Hey! How long do you intend to spend in there!" An impatient voice yelled. Aurora adjusted her clothes and stepped out of the lavatory, only for one of her fellow inmates who had been waiting outside to bump into her. "You better watch it whore!" The inmate snapped bitterly, shoving Aurora hard against the wall. Aurora staggered to regain her stand to stare at Paula, it wasn't the first time the girl had been rude and mean to her, Even so
CHAPTER FORTY TWO~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Tremont almost couldn't recognize the woman lying so still on the small bed. Bandages covered some of the bruises on the frail body which the provided hospital grown had failed to hide. His heart gnawed with the same intensity of anxiousness as it had when he had first found her under the heavy rain yesterday. How did she turn out like this in only the space of some weeks? The woman he had sent to prison had been healthy-looking. Now, she was painfully thin, her complexion was pale and waxy, her previously long hair was now short and dry, he even spotted some fresh bruises on her face. ' She is suffering from a severe case of cholera, combined with the infections from the untreated bruises on her body, if she had been brought any later, I'm afraid that it would have been difficult to save her ' The doctor's words echoed in his mind.The more he stared at her unmoving form, the uncomfortable sensation in his heart
CHAPTER FORTY THREE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Water." Her mouth felt all dry and swollen. She opened her mouth and managed to repeat the words, this time her eyes fluttered open. The first thing she realized was that the walls were different from those of her prison cell. She suddenly remembered she had been released!After that...The thought was shoved aside when a glass of water was presented in front of her, she grabbed the glass greedily and dragged it to her lips. At that moment, she gazed at the person who had handed the water and her shaky fingers gave way.The glass fell to the tiled floor with a loud shattering sound. She was barely conscious of the sound. Her body was left frozen in shock, she couldn't tear her eyes away from the man in front of her.Dressed in a charcoal grey suit, his dark hair thoroughly combed was none other than the very person who had sent her to jail.Her husband.Trem
