Chapter 40

Sarah was forced to take a step back by Ezra's icy-sharp gaze that he hooked on her. His breath got ragged, and his mouth tightened as if trying to hold back what he truly wanted to say.

His hands were trembling, he noticed. The button that was currently on the floor connected all the doors in his cutting executive office. He spent thousands of dollars on it, which was more than the clueless girl in front of him could ever imagine spending.

He rolled himself up to the elevator and tried to use the buttons, but they were inoperative.

He went for the front door and repeatedly tried to open it with his key card but it seemed to be stuck too.

He turned to face Sarah, who stood in the corner of the office, praying for none of the doors to open.

"Are you stupid?" he roared at her. "Do you know how much this system cost me?"

Sarah exhaled deeply. "I needed your attention without you calling your security or using the elevator," she said.
