CHAPTER 03

Irish yawned and parted the curtains, letting the beautiful sunlight kiss her skin.

Looking down her stomach, she rubbed it gently. "I'm sorry darling, but I would never give up on you."

Her orbs soaked as the tears cascaded down her cheeks.

She could remember what had happened after that night, two months ago, when she slept with Alpha Adrian.

The next morning, he was so irritated by the sight of her that he stormed out of the room after he said to her, "Only in your imagination will I be with a lowlife like you. You disgust me." He spat and stormed out of the room in anger.

It seemed that the wolf thingy had made it impossible for him to resist her that night. But the events of that night had dashed her heart like glass on the floor, and when it fell, it had shattered into a million pieces.

She was his mate. He wouldn't reject her and neither would he set her free. The cruel abandonment of her father was nothing compared to the pain of finding her mate only to discover that he didn't want her.

A knock was rasped on her door and she quickly wiped her tears.

"It's time for your antenatal check-up." A servant announced behind her.

"I'll be down in a minute." Replied Irish.

When she got down, she found Adrian seated with Ashley, having breakfast, and they were staring at the tablet he was holding. Ashley was laughing at a joke he made while leaning into him. Obviously, they were having fun.

"This way lady. We have to get to the hospital on time." Cynthia said.

Cynthia was a maid, assigned to Irish when she fell pregnant.

Irish was following Cynthia when she heard Adrian speak. "Cynthia. You can leave Irish alone for today. I'll take her to the hospital myself."

Irish froze in place as she gasped, slowly turning around to face Adrian.

His words seemed to have caused so much tension in the room just now.

Ashley frowned deeply.

"Please stay with me. You're barely around these days and I'm not feeling too well. Cynthia can take perfect care of her." Ashley pleaded, even surprised that he could say such.

Irish smirked. She was sure it was the mate bond that made Adrian want to be so close to her. If it were not for the mate bond. They wouldn't even be together.

Ashley wasn't Adrian's mate and true Luna. At least Irish had witnessed it on the last night of the full moon.

On the night of the full moon, any pure Luna who had an Alpha mate was supposed to have a complete transformation such as senses heightening, limbs lengthening, and body covered in thick soft fur.

But none of that happened to Luna Ashley.

Irish blinked out of the past and focused on the couple.

Adrian stood up to face Ashley who was now equally standing.

"I need to go with her and keep her from harm's way. I mean she could encounter a dangerous rogue on her way that would mean that our child is gone. I need to protect her myself. I can't let her escape too. I thought we've talked about this."

Ashley went to stand close to Adrian, her eyes dripping with emotions, "You're doing this because she's your mate isn't it?" She then turned and stared daggers at Irish.

Irish folded her arms across her chest as she faced Adrian. "You should go be with your wife. She needs you. I will be fine on my own."

Irish began walking away when Adrian yanked her hand, dragging her backward.

"Don't you dare walk out on me? You'll listen to every word I say or I swear, you'll face the consequences of denying your Alpha," his words sent shivers down her spine as his eyes held her in place.

Irish backed down. No matter what, she couldn't deny the authority of an Alpha.

"Let's go," he walked past her, leaving Ashley fuming at the table.

When she held her gaze, Irish simply walked away. She didn't want to hear anything the Luna had to say. What else would it be? Just threats not to try anything funny with the Alpha.

As if her growing belly was funny! She got knocked up after one round of sex!

The drive to the hospital was very quiet. She was thankful he didn't say a word to her but the tension was so thick that she feared that was enough to send her child out of her womb.

She glanced at him now and then and Goddess! He had a deep frown etched on his face like everything upset him just by being in this world.

After the checkup, they took a ride home again.

"Are you hungry?" He suddenly asked.

"No."

"You should eat more. If anything-"

She snapped her head to him, "Don't you have better things to say than threaten me?"

He was turning to her immediately with eyes that sent her boldness back where it came from, "What did you say-"

"I said don't you have better things to do than baby me?" She shrieked, changing her words and wishing the car seat would swallow her.

How did Ashley live with this grumpy man and not try to run away?

"Just shut up and do as you're told," he turned back to the road, missing her narrowed glare in his direction.

He was pulling into the driveway and once the car came to a stop, Irish bolted out.

Please don't call me back. Please don't follow me. She chanted in her head as she climbed up the stairs.

Her feet suddenly slipped off the edge of the stairs and Irish's heart jerked as she saw her fall.

Oh Goddess, the baby!

She was losing balance, squeezing her eyes shut to brace for impact on the cold floor when strong arms wrapped around her waist.

"Are you fucking insane!" The scream tore through her mindless thoughts but unlike before, she didn't mind.

She was heaving, her chest rising and falling so hard, she gripped his shirt, looking him in the eye.

Tears blurred her vision as she took deep breaths to calm her racing heart.

Adrian's face softened when he saw the fear break out on her face. She was clinging onto him as if afraid to let go.

"It's okay," he found himself saying in a calm voice and she nodded, paying attention for the first time since she actually came here.

She looked so obedient with fear radiating all over her and she tried to speak but gulped back her words each time.

"You're alright," he said again, his eyes resting on her heaving breasts before they settled on her wet lips.

They drew him in like an enchantment.

" You're... Alright," he was swiping his tongue across his lips so fast and his throat felt tight as he swallowed.

Their faces were getting so close. He cupped her face, pushing her hair back and caressing her ears.

"Yes," she responded. She was fine. No pain at all. She was alright but why did it feel so incomplete?

His eyes were captivating. Was he coming closer or was she-

"Fuck this," Adrian suddenly whispered. "I can't do this anymore."

Do what--

His lips crashed on hers in an instant as he pulled her closer like he could merge them into one. Once his tongue thrust into her mouth, Irish felt the fire in her heart like a wild drum had begun.

She kissed him back and they pushed back and forth as if fighting for control.

A wild flame of passion started in her chest, spreading throughout her body and traveling between her legs.

How could a single kiss get her started like this? She was done for.

Everything was lost in their heated passion, nothing mattered except the insane urge to sink their teeth into-

"What the fuck is going on here?”
