Chapter 42

Violet POV.

The pain of betrayal is more intense than anything else. Today was the day Helen's punishment was to be carried out.

I didn't want to witness it, so I stayed in my room while Sebastian went to the cell to carry out the task.

Sebastian asked Emily to come and stay with me so I wouldn't be alone, and she came with Evelyn too.

We all sat in the sitting room chatting when Evelyn said something related to Helen.

"I know I haven't been the best when it comes to behaviour, but I have never betrayed someone I once called my friend," she said.

I didn't know what to say, as I hadn't expected such a statement from her.

"Let's talk about something else," I said to them. I asked Evelyn how her pregnancy was treating her and she said she had become more lazy.

She said she had been sleeping a lot and she no longer ate the food she cooked.

I told them about how Sebastian had cooked rice and chicken for me, but I couldn't eat it. Pregnancy can change someone.
