CASSANDRA'S POV

The pain shot through my bone, causing me to jerk. And even though Alder was here with me I just couldn't get any relief, the pain and heat was all over even worse than my heat. Alder brought me close to himself and even though I wanted to snap, his scent didn't permit me to, instead it made me calm.

As Alder held me close, his strong arms enveloping me, I could feel the tension slowly starting to melt away. His comforting embrace seemed to create a protective barrier around me, shielding me from the unbearable pain that had engulfed my body. His head was buried in my neck and I couldn't help but moan at the feeling of his lips touching it. I pulled him closer, not wanting him to let go, not even for a moment, and that made me wonder if I was really in pain or in heat. I was perplexed but didn't really have the time to think about it because of the profound pain.
