CHAPTER THREE

"Please, let go of me," Lindsey cried as she tried to push him away from her. I saw her struggling against him, but he was too cruel to let go of her. I was boiling in anger. My knuckles turned into fists as rage build inside of me. With quick steps, I made my way towards them and closed the distance between us.

I grabbed the collar of the man from behind and pushed him back from my sister, who slid to the floor crying. But that guy didn't get the message. I heard him shout absurdity, and I turned to look at him.

"You bitch..." he spoke as I took a step towards him. My hands were itching to slap him. I was continuously gritting my teeth in anger. He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, I kicked him in his stomach. He stumbled back. Taking few seconds to balance himself, he lurched towards me. I held out my fist to punch him, but he grabbed my fist and twisted my hand. I groaned when a jolt of pain shot through my wrist, but that didn't stop him as he punched me on my chin. I touched my chin, which was aching with pain, and took a few steps back to breathe.

"How dare you kick me? You bitch. And who the hell are you to put your finger in my business," he shouted with his eyes fixed on me.

"I'm her sister, you asshole," I shot back, glaring at him, and with that, I kicked him directly on his head. He lost his balance, hitting his head on the iron rode of the staircase, and lost consciousness. He fell down the bottom of the stairs and laid there unconscious.

I waited for him to stand up and fight, but he never did. I looked at Lindsey who was sitting on the floor, hugging her knees to her chest. I waited, but nothing happened. Lindsey stood from the floor and stalked towards him. Blood was spilling out from his head all over the floor. Lindsey reached to him and put her two fingers on his neck to check his nerves. She cried putting her both hands on her mouth and her eyes met mine. With tears in her eyes, she shook her head. I felt my heart dropping and my world turned upside down. I watched the man from where I stood and I realized what I just did.

I killed him.

I killed a man.

Hurriedly I pulled out my phone and dialed my Uncle's number. He picked up on the second ring.

"Hey bunny, did you find her?" he asked. I looked again at the man who was lying on the floor with blood all around him and Lindsey, who was crying.

"Uncle..." I said with my trembling lips.

"What's the matter, Bunny? Are you alright? Did something happen to Linds?" He asked with a worried tone.

"I...I...,” I tried to say but my voice didn’t leave my throat. I took a deep breath and ran a hand through my hair.

“Uncle I… I…this...this man here... he fell from the stairs and...and is not breathing." I told him, holding my sobs as tears roll down my chin.

"Where are you?" he quizzed.

"Terrace," I said, still sobbing.

"Wait there, I'm on my way," he said and hung up the phone. He arrived within a few minutes and stopped when he noticed the man lying on the floor. His eyes went to Lindsey beside him who silently sat on the floor then his eyes met mine.

"What happened?" he asked us but none of us said anything. He repeated his question and Lindsey told him everything. He gazed at me and hurried over to me.

"Everything's going to be alright. Don't worry. Okay," he said in my ear as he hugged me, rubbing my back with his hand. He pulled back from me and turned to look at Lindsey, who was still beside the man, crying.

"Check his pockets, see if he has his identity," he ordered Lindsey, but she didn't move. I went to the man and knelt beside him. I searched his pockets and found his wallet. I found his ID inside the wallet and read aloud the man’s name, "Louis Grayson."

Uncle John hurried beside me and snatched the ID card from my hand. He checked the ID himself, not believing me.

"Damn it. What was he doing here? Who the hell invited him?" he cursed and clenched his jaw. I noticed his hands trembling and his face showed that he recognized the man.

"Do..do you know him?" Lindsey asked, stepping beside me. Tearing away his gaze from the card and he looked at us but didn’t say anything for a minute. His silence made my heart pick its pace. I waited holding my breath for him to say something.

"You have to run,” he finally spoke. For a minute, I didn’t believe he said that. I looked at him with my eyebrows furrowed in confusion. But his face showed that he was serious.

"What?" I glimpsed at him and he stared right back at me.

"You know him?" I questioned and continued before he could’ve said anything, “and why should I run away? You can help me, can’t you?” I spluttered.

"No, you have to run away because if you don’t, he will kill you,” he said in an emergence tone. His eyes were wide and I found fear in them. He was scared. But of whom?

"Who will kill her?" it was Lindsey who asked that while I was dumbstruck. He inhaled sharply and ran a hand through his hair. He was nervous. I had never seen him nervous and scared of anything but today he looked unsure about everything.

"Who is he?" I asked taking a glance at the man on the floor.

“He is the only brother of Beckham Grayson,” he stated and continued, “he is a ruthless mafia and when he finds out that you’ve killed his brother, he will kill you." He finished I detected fear in his voice. That kind of fear I've never seen in my uncle. I refused to run away and held my ground but I didn’t get much choice when they both consistently told me to get away from here.

“What about Linds?” I asked him.

“I’ll take care of her. I promise,” he said. My eyes flooded with tears when I knew I had to leave them behind. I hugged Lindsey and Uncle who continued to say that everything would be alright. I nodded hugging him. I took a last glance at both of them and stalked towards my room.
