Chapter Forty-one

The sun slowly rose over the horizon, casting a warm glow across the kitchen. Brenda had already risen early, excited about the new day and the new opportunity. Damien had agreed to care for her after their fight. They both knew that they needed to work together for the sake of their baby. And so, they spent the next few days trying to get back to the way things used to be. And it worked. That morning happened like those times they lived happy. Brenda busied herself in the kitchen, humming a tune under her breath as she prepared breakfast for them both. As she cooked, she couldn’t help but nod her head to the beat of the song playing in her head. She stood flipping pancakes and humming the tune to herself. She felt a sense of happiness that she hadn’t experienced in a while. They were slowly working towards mending their broken relationship.

Damien emerged from his room, still rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He was pleased to see Brenda in the kitchen, cooking up a storm as she al
