The Photo

Percival stepped out of the car, taking the umbrella with one hand and holding Eulalia's icy little hand with the other.

Entering the cemetery, Eulalia looked out at a field filled with tombstones. The gloomy sky hung heavily above, making it feel like the air was hard to breathe.

Sawyer had been buried only a few days ago, and the cleanest stone in the area marked his grave.

In front of the tombstone lay a bouquet of lilies, their petals wilted and disfigured by the rain. Eulalia crouched down, tidying the flowers, then used her sleeve to wipe the picture on the stone. In the photo, a young Sawyer was dressed in a suit, smiling brightly, his eyes filled with wisdom and spirit.

It was his wedding picture, and his wife's photo was also from their wedding. Placed together, they looked harmonious, as if time had rewound twenty-eight years.
