Chapter 22

Alex's POV

"What happened to her? Why does her voice sound weak?" My heart pounded at the thought of what might have happened to her, anxious at the thought of what might be happening to her, just like that time.

My blood instantly seemed to cool down, but thinking about it still impacts me now. "Wait for me there. I'll be right there." I forgot what I was going to do. I quickly turned towards the door and ran down the stairs towards the exit on the main floor.

"Where are you going, Alex?!" I heard Mom's voice yelling quite loudly at the spot where I had left her earlier.

I glanced back at her. "I have something urgent to do, so I must go," I replied casually.

"Keep making excuses. I'm sure Emily contacted you, so you rushed off." She replied in a sarcastic tone. But I ignored her and kept walking away from the living room I had to pass through to get out. "You better make sure you do what I say, or you'll regret it." I can still clearly hear Mom's words even though I'm now at the doo
