Distract me

When we arrived at the estate, my nerves were still on edge. For some reason, my heartbeat was still erratic. I still couldn't get over the chills. I was paranoid, looking everywhere and expecting danger.

When the car came to a stop, I rushed to the house, almost sprinting, and jumped into Nikolai's arms. He was waiting at the entrance to the house for us.

Immediately I was in his arms again, he held onto me tightly. I heard him sniffing my hair before holding me even tighter.

It was like he was afraid I would disappear if he let go. I blinked back the tears that were threatening to fall down my face and pulled away from his grasp.

The comfort he was giving me was bound to make me cry a river and I hated to do that in front of the guards.
