Lost in the Crowd

“ Where are you going? “ I asked as I placed my hand on Nikolai’s hand to stop him from leaving.

My eyes were barely open but I felt him unwind his hands from my body. It was early in the morning, the hour he left to go to work. After the day we had, I didn’t want to wake up to him gone.

“ To work, “ he answered and placed a kiss on my cheek. He tried to let go of my hand but I wouldn’t let him go.

“ I have to go, bambina. The Russians can’t wait. “ He said softly while stroking my cheek with the back of his hand.

I immediately felt guilty for whining like a child when I knew there was a threat out there that could not wait to be taken care of. I should have been grateful he even slept next to me.

“ Okay…”

“ I’ll be there for breakfast, amore.”

I nodded my head and he kissed my forehead before leaving. I sighed and my eyes started closing once again.

When I woke up, again, the sun rays were seeping through the curtains into my room, alerting me that it was already late in the morning.
