The silence that followed my demand enraged me. How dare they?

I kept banging on the door even when I caught a whiff of her fear. Although deep down I knew it was better to stop and step away, I couldn’t.

Maybe, after all, my anger was based on her unexplainable fear of me. I knew she didn’t know me, all Eden could base her opinion on was the rumors she had heard. Yes, those rumors were awful, but I never treated her poorly. Or did I?

That thought forced me to back down and let them be. Until… Until I heard the old man speak, proving that Eden really hid behind that door. “You stay here, I will deal with him.”
