The thing was that I knew I was unreasonably harsh to Eden, but I couldn’t stop the hatred that kept on growing within me. Lucius povI woke from shouting on the other side of the door. Xabat was still present, but thankfully, I wasn’t him anymore. Just my usual, human self. He was quick to explain what had happened and how silver took me out. Apparently, I was in the hospital and the doctors had done a trick on us to ensure I lived. As childish as it sounded, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to anymore. Yes, I knew my thoughts sounded like a temper tantrum of a toddler, but soon after I found my mate and realized we had no future together, I didn’t know if I could be the same after she left. Eden povOkay, maybe I didn’t fully think about how to deal with the situation when I volunteered to look after Lucius. I had a feeling he had heard some things from the argument I had with Titus, but the coldness from him was enough proof for me to realize he had heard more than just a few things. Titus was nowhere to be found and by the time I got to the bedroom, Lucius was already there. At first, I tried to talk him into getting some rest, but all he did was stand at the bedroom window. That was how our first evening of his bed rest pretty much went by. Lucius refused to look at me or engage into conversations, no matter how hard I tried to talk. If I heard his voice, it happened only when I asked if he was hungry or thirsty. Then, as the night came, once again, I tried to talk him into getting in the bed. While Eden was more than I had ever hoped for, she also overwhelmed and confused me. All my life I had to be sure of every step I took because so many supernaturals depended on me, but now, I feared my own thoughts. Any moment I could say something to hurt her, do something wrong, and while I was almost sure that I had given up, I started the way of checking out, I still doubted my ability to be near. Hence why the moment I found her sleeping next to the bedroom door, I carried her inside and left her in the bed. Eden povI did it. I kissed Lucius. I kissed the King. My heart hammered in my chest, my hands trembled and fear surged through me. But oddly enough, none of those things happened because of the quick kiss. The reaction I had was because of his state, not the thing I did. Honestly, I had no idea why I did it, but it felt like the right thing to do. Just as I was about to pull away, Lucius placed his hand on the back of my neck and pulled me back in. His lips rested against mine for a brief moment, and then, he kissed me. His kiss was anything but the pathetic peck I gave him. His lips moved against mine with actual passion. Lucius didn’t try to thrust his tongue into my mouth like I had seen other men do, no. The kiss was as demanding and possessive as it was gentle and attentive. When our lips finally parted, he let out a shaky breath and whispered, “sorry. I didn’t mean to take advantage of you.” “Y-you didn’t,” I stuttered, still a little taken aback by what just happened.

Instead, she sat up, looking as uncomfortable as ever and stared at me as if I just grew another head. “What?” I asked through the laugh. “Why are you laughing at me?” She sounded serious and a little concerned, but I just waved her off because there was no way I would ever tell her what the beast just announced. “Why not? Tell her!” Xabat growled at me, making me laugh even harder. I could only imagine the look on her face if she heard his thoughts. Lucius pov“Shower it is,” Eden giggled and pushed me away from her. I stood aside like an idiot as I watched her hop off the counter and grab the bottom of the shirt she was wearing. Eden didn’t pull it over her head just yet, she looked at me and raised an eyebrow as if she wanted to ask me if I was planning to join. Shaking my head, I managed to get back to my senses. “Yeah, right, I’m joining,” I muttered and hurried to turn on the shower. “Can you turn around and avoid looking at me until I get in the shower, please?” She asked. I glanced over my shoulder just in time to see that beautiful blush cover her cheeks and nodded. “Sure thing.” Eden looked like a massive weight fell off her shoulders when I agreed.
