[Layla’s POV]Six months later.I stirred in my sleep, with a smile on my face, refusing to wake up from the beautiful dream I was having. Xavier and I were by the poolside, and he was stroking my hair while we laughed and discussed about what had happened in the council meeting that day.“Mum, there’s a butterfly... a butterfly,” my little pup who looked exactly like Xavier cried as he ran, chasing a butterfly.“Mum?” I mumbled, dryly. “Mum,” I said, this time in an affirmative tone.My eyelashes fluttered and I opened my eyes instantly, and sat up immediately looking up at the white ceiling.Didn’t they say having dreams about kids meant that you will be having a child soon enough? Once again, my hope had been restored.I climbed out of bed, filled with so much happiness and glee. “Michaela,” I called.I raced to where the calendar hung just by the side of the mirror next to the dressing table, and went to check the marked dates which in turn made me smile even more broadly.“Michae
[Xavier’s POV]“How is Layla doing now?” I asked as Kyle opened the door and came in.“You know how she does whenever she sees her period, your highness,” he responded.I heaved a deep sigh. “Kyle, you know I don’t care about whether we have kids or not, right? I mean, I want children, yes, but Layla is my only priority. I just wish there was something I could do to make her feel better,” I said.“I understand. I think she wouldn’t have been feeling this terrible if she hadn’t gotten pregnant before,” Kyle said.“Yeah... and it’s my fault that she lost that pregnancy,” I said.“No. It was Roman and...”“Enough of apportioning blames to others already. If I had trusted her, all this wouldn’t have happened. No! If I had had common sense and not caused harm to a pregnant woman whether she was carrying my child or not, all this wouldn’t have happened. I’m scared... so scared,” I said to him.“The Alpha doesn’t get scared,” Kyle stated.I snickered. “Since when did you place me in the leag
[Layla’s POV]“You asked to see me in the middle of a meeting. Is everything okay?” Xavier inquired.I didn’t wait for him to finish speaking when I reached out to him and wrapped my arms around his neck, kissing him with intense desire. He kissed me back, responding with the same desire. Our tongues touched and we felt each other's blood as we both drank it like water... it was sweet, but it still left me feeling unsatisfied. He grabbed my thighs forcefully as I felt his hands move from mine and slide up to my crotch, he slowly started squeezing it as he moved his tongue into my mouth again. We made out for a while until our breathing became heavy; I could feel sweat drip from my forehead. He moved me on top of the bed, and we lay in each others arms as we held on to each other. Our hearts were beating rapidly as we felt ourselves getting aroused once more; he removed my underwear and took off his pants, placing a kiss on my neck.He lifted me up so that I would rest against the bed
[Xavier’s POV]Being in the Palace around her was getting too tiring, and I just needed somewhere else to be at that point. I needed to think things through and just see if I could go back to being my normal self which was happy before the whole child issue began. So, I raced on all fours, breezing through the woods without stopping till I got to my favourite spot back when I was little. No one could find me there, and it was a place I went to whenever I needed to be alone with my thoughts.I arrived there, and transformed back into my human form, then gasped for breath, relaxing a bit. It was a serene environment deep in the woods which I had come across about a decade and a half ago.The land was dry with no sign of life, save for a large tree which had been alive for decades, centuries even. I didn’t know how, but somehow, it wasn’t dead even though no one was looking after it, and I remember being fascinated by it the first time I ever came across this place when I had gotten lost
[Layla’s POV]The Alpha was yet to return, and seeing as he had left in such an upset state, I was feeling really unsettled.I was getting way too overbearing, and it sometimes did seem like I was taking advantage of the fact that he loved me even though that wasn't the case."Where do you think he must have gone to?" I asked Michaela who was brushing my long hair."I don't know, your highness. He probably went to just clear his head. You don't need to be worried. I am sure he is fine wherever he is," she responded.“Michaela, do you think I’m annoying?” I inquired, staring at my sad reflection in the mirror.“No, your highness. Don’t say that. You’re just acting exactly how most women would act,” she said.“Do you mean that, or are you just saying it to please me?” I inquired.“I mean every word of what I just said, your highness,” she replied.I heaved a deep sigh. “Still, I need to apologise to the Alpha, not so?” I asked.“Do what your heart tells you to,” she said, then placed th
[Xavier’s POV]I buttoned up my robe, and gave a satisfactory smile as I looked at my reflection in the mirror. A pup was going to be cleansed today after its birth a week ago. It was a ceremony we hosted for every new-born pup, and there were several events that were done on that special day. There was the naming of the pup, presenting it to the Moon Goddess in the temple, bathing of the pup by the Luna or any female elder or the wife of an elder, and so on.I hadn’t even bothered to inform Layla about the event because I was sure it would trigger her and she might start crying or something. It was for this reason I decided to go alone with Kyle and some of the other guards.“The Luna won’t be happy if she finds out there was a pup cleansing ceremony and you didn’t tell her,” Kyle said as soon as I stepped out.“I’m sure she will understand that I hid it from her for her own good,” I said, heading over to the room where Jeffrey had been placed. His aged father stood up to say his gre
[Xavier’s POV]I knocked repeatedly on her door with so much force and aggression, as I looked around carefully to ensure that I wasn’t seen by anyone.“Yeah, who’s there?” a sleepy Veronica asked as she unlocked the door and stepped outside, rubbing her eyes as she yawned.“Veronica, I need to speak with you,” I stated.“Speak to me about what?” she asked in a calm voice then opened her eyes wider to realise that it was me. “Alpha Xavier, what are you doing here?” she inquired.“I just really needed to speak to someone badly, and I know that even though I said that I hope to never see you again, you’re the only one that can truly understand me,” I explained.A smirk played around her lips. “I’m trying so hard to refrain myself from saying I told you so right now,” she said.“Well, you did tell me, so feel free to say it,” I told her.She looked at me for a while, then shook her head in the negative. “No, I won’t. Come on in. Luckily for you, my dad isn’t around,” she said, opening th
[Xavier’s POV]The next morning, I mumbled something inaudible as the rays from the sun hit my eyes. My lashes fluttered and I opened my eyes to a new day and yawned tiredly, rubbing my eyes with a blank expression to make out why I was in bed by that time when the sun was already fully out, and wondered if Layla was feeling better now.My arm felt stiff and I rolled over to the side to see her still sleeping with her head on my arm as she curled up to a ball. A smile crept up to my face and I made to remove the hair which was covering her face.Wait a minute! Layla’s hair wasn’t black. It was golden blonde, and it was straight, not wavy. The only person who matched the person lying next to me was... was... Oh no!I blinked my eyes rapidly and looked around the room. This wasn’t any room in the Palace. The pictures on the wall were different, same as the paintings, the curtains... everything, virtually everything.“This is a dream,” I muttered to myself. “This can’t be true,” I said,
