Twenty Three

Kristen stepped into her apartment and closed the door.

The hallway was dark, the lights were turned off. The only noise in the whole building was her footsteps echoing in the quiet apartment.

She walked to her bedroom and took off her shoes. There was a slight pause and she listened to make sure no one had followed her home. She let out a relieved sigh when all seemed safe.

It was a cold night, the wind howling down from the high rise and causing a few of Kristen's hairs to flutter against her face.

There was still a little snow on the ground, it wasn't much but enough for anyone with the good sense to not be outside.

Kristen grabbed a warm coat before heading to the kitchen. She needed food

A mug of hot cocoa awaited her as the heater warmed the apartment up. The aroma of coffee filled the air and Kristen breathed in deeply. She hadn't realized that she was starving until she felt the sweet warmth of the cocoa spreading through her body.
