It had to be untrue.

My eyes were probably playing tricks on me.

Or not.

The scene playing out in front of me proved it. Zeke and the others had truly planned to kill me. I froze at a spot, making no sound.

Even when Roanna retracted her magic, and the scene vanished.

“Do you believe us now?” She asked.

I couldn't respond. My heart was numb. A part of me wanted to argue. To prove that what I'd just watched wasn't true.

“Why did you save me?” I asked.

“You play a vital role in this game of power, Mirah. Your heart is a special kind, and that is why King Xavier is interested in you.” Roanna said, tapping her fork on her plate.

“King Xavier?” I repeated.

“Yes. You've met him. He's the king of the Rogue-brids, the exiled.” She continued.

“I don't understand. What role does a human have to play in the game of the supernatural world?” I asked, making no effort to hide my confusion.
