24~ Break up

“How do you plan to travel?” Alexander asked with indifference but I could tell from the slight ticking of his jaw that he was trying to reign in his anger. 

“By sea,” I answered. “There’s a ship that’s going up north, I want to start from there,” I said, trying to sound as calm as possible.

“Okay,” he said as he opened the gate to my family’s mansion for me. “Take care of yourself and I hope you find the happiness you are looking for.” he added and turned around to leave. 

“Alex,” I called out to him and he stopped but didn’t look back at me. The words I wanted to say were just at the tip of my tongue but I just couldn’t bring myself to say anything. He continued to walk away when I stayed silent for a while and he didn’t look back, not even once. If he did, he would have noticed the stream of tears that was flowing down my cheeks endlessly. I couldn’t blame him for I had hurt him deeply back at the meadow.
